NS 4.7x used to have a very nice way of displaying message date and time:
every message of less than a week old were displayed with only 'day of the week
and time'
every message of less than 24hours old were displayed with only 'time'

this allows instant identification of recent messages in a folder, compared to
older messages, and you don't need to ask yourself what day of the month today
is :-)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
always the same date/time format

Expected Results:
09:00 AM
Tuesday 09:00 AM
03/12/2003 09:00 AM
typo in title
Summary: Message date format is message list isn't relative to current date and time → Message date format in message list isn't relative to current date and time
This appears to duplicate Bug 178095, where there is a patch in progress.
Actually, following the link in that bug, this comment explains how to get what
you want, now:

  http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25177#c13
this info looks good, I need to try it and update you

Would their be some room for this in the release notes ?? (why doing stuff
without communicating about it ?)
Info given in the other bug comment pointed to in #3 doesn't solve the issue: it
doesn't work
See http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25177#c43
