Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312

A left click in the account sidebar, followed by a right click is treated as
double-click, as the account expands/contracts and context menu is popped up.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In the account sidebar, left click on an account
2. Immediately follow the left click with a right click
Actual Results:
The account expanded to reveal Inbox, Drafts, Templates, etc. as well as the
context menu

Expected Results:
Only showed context menu

Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Depends on: 178003
Removing new dependency; this bug isn't really about the sidebar. Updating
summary.

On testing this a bit more, I see that the "double-click" only happens when
clicking on an account name, not on a folder name. (Double-clicking a folder
opens a new mail/news window with that folder selected.)
No longer depends on: 178003
Summary: left click followed by right click in account sidebar is taken as a double click → left click followed by right click in folder pane is taken as a double click
Perhaps this bug is not on the Mail/News code. It seems that there are similar
bugs with Event Handling on Browser (bug 217560 and bug 185259). It is possible
that when one bug is solved, all bugs should be get fixed too. Perhaps they are
dupes.

Mike: trying it on a folder the behaviour is not the "double click" event. The
effect is to show/hide the subfolders (if it has them).

Regards.
FYI, bug 217560 was fixed some time ago.
Can you still reproduce this bug?
I do still see this bug, and for all the cases listed at bug 217560:
double-right, right-left, left-right. The two clicks need to be as quick as the
standard double-click's are.

Interestingly (maybe :) a double-right-click performed on a node that's not
currently selected will perform the double-click action on the selected node.

sorry about my previous comment, that was a false alert judging from summary of
the bug.

The issue has been fixed on aviary branch however. Works now for me with TB
20040813. Trunk fix is coming.

See bug 244692. I believe it will be used to track the bug, and this should be
marked as a duplicate.
Product: Browser → Seamonkey
This bug also occurs when clicking on a bookmark folder in the Bookmarks
window. (Left-clicking on a folder and the quickly right-clicking to get
the context menu also acts like a double-click, expanding or collapsing
the folder.

MASS-CHANGE:
This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state.

If you can confirm that this report still applies to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it back to the NEW state along with a comment on how you reproduced it on what Build ID, or if it's an enhancement request, why it's still worth implementing and in what way.
If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar).
If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state.

Do anyone know the equivalent bug of this one that targets Thunderbird instead of Seamonkey?
TB version of this bug is bug 309892.

It sure would be nice if this 10 year old bug would get fixed.
NOT reproducible with German SeaMonkey 2.32.1 Build 20150204202218 on German WIN7 64bit.
Due to Comment 2 the bug only happens for left-right-click on Account name; it's not written, but I think the problem is that left-right-click will compress/expand the folder structure (as a double click does) instead of "select, then show context menu"

"Bug 309892 - folder pane wrongly detecting doubleclicks when clicking with left and right mouse buttons " is for Thunderbird, do we really need separate Bugs?

"Bug 252924 - a left-click followed by a right-click is handled as double-click " has been fixed in 2004

"Bug 86468 - Left/Right clicks undiscriminated for double-clicks " might be related

Other possibly related (or DUPs) you find here: <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?cmdtype=runnamed&namedcmd=DUPs200921&list_id=12034347>

I think this one (if it still does exist) is a "Core - Event Handling" issue (or similar)

On de.comm.software.mozilla.misc "SM: Bugs bestätigen 2015-02 -- Bug 200921 - Schnelle Abfolge Klick -> Rechtsklick wird als Doppelklick gewertet" some users tried to reproduce the problem - without success.

Tested OS:
Win 7 Ultimate / SM 2.32.1
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
In _might_be that I reproduced the problem. In very seldom cases a quick lefclick-rightclick sequence on a folder without subfolders will open a new Mail Window, what is the same action expected for a double click. But I am far away from seeing this behavior reproducible, so that it currently is impossible for me to exclude other reasons (may be my left mouse button contact does chatter?)
Continuing tests required.

I tried intensively lots of times, but NOT reproducible with unzipped unofficial (by wg9s) De SeaMonkey 2.53.6 beta 1 pre Mozilla/5.0 (NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build 20201024210004 (Newly created User Profile, Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit. So, after 18 years, I close this one as WFM for now. Please feel to reopen if you still observe the problem find a way how to make your observations reproducible.
