This is a "4xp" issue, which is giving me a hard time.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. "Compose" a new message
2. Type "ToAddress" (for example) in the "To:" field
3. Wait an instant for autocomplete to run and highlight its suggestion
4. Try to use Left Arrow to edit what you just typed.

Actual Results:
In "Mozilla",

*if "ToAddress" does not match your address book (or whatever), you get a
"@localdomain" added before you can continue to edit the address

*if "ToAddress" match ... what you type is replaced by the suggestion before ...

Expected Results:
In Netscape v4.8,

*no match: the "@localdomain" suggestion remains in red until either:
 *you type an "@", and the suggestion disappears
 *you "validate" the entry (using Return/Enter for example), and the suggestion
becomes permanent

*match: the suggestion remains displayed in green until ...

The "workaround" is either:
*no match: continue to edit the address then remove the "@localdomain" as needed;
*match: well, you may likely erase the whole address, and start again :-(

This bug is similar to bug 131692, duped to bug 93453. Serge Gautherie, does the fix for 93453 also address this issue?

[Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060217 SeaMonkey/1.5a] (nightly) (W98SE)

The 'match' case at least is not fixed yet.

*(OS) Win95 -> Win98, as I'm not using Win95 anymore.

This is still extremely annoying:

STR

1 have email2007@xyz.abc in your AB
2 compose, type recipient: email2007
-> autocomplete offers completion
3a cursor left to correct 2007 into 2009
or
3b DELete autocomplete highlighted suggestion, then 3a (cursor left)

Actual Result
3a aggressive autocomplete completes on cursor left!?
3b aggressive autocomplete completes on cursor left!?

Expecte Result
Autocomplete, leave my typing alone!

OT: Jim, I was struck by disappearing dependencies here again - I swear I didn't even touch the dependency fields and it just removed it by itself.

This doesn't seem to be an issue in my testing using 82.0b2.

Using the STR:

  1. I type in an email address in the To: field
  2. Some match appears highlighted in the format foo >> foo@bar.com
  3. Pressing left arrow then makes the email appears as "foo >> Foo <foo@bar.com>" and the cursor appears to the far left of "foo >>"
  4. Clicking Tab or then clicking in the Subject: area then auto-corrects the email address in To: as Foo <foo@bar.com>

But, here's something:

  1. I type in an email address in the To: field
  2. Some match appears highlighted in the format "foo >> foo@bar.com"
  3. Pressing left arrow then makes the email appears as "foo >> Foo <foo@bar.com>" and the cursor appears to the far left of "foo >>"
  4. Press the End key while the cursor is blinking at the far left of "foo >> Foo <foo@bar.com>"---which moves the cursor to the far right of the tailing ">"---and then type a few more letters.
  5. The To: filed should now look like "foo >> Foo <foo@bar.com>foo"
  6. Pressing Enter, Tab, or clicking in Subject now formats the email in the To: field as "Foo >> <foo@bar.com>" yet doesn't auto-correct.

Things that make you go hmmm....
