Problem also seen in 1.4a German Version from KaiRo

No Problem in 1.3 and 1.3 german

You might use attached bookmarks of bug 202224 to test this

Steps to reproduce:
0. use attached bookmarks of bug 202224 to test this, if it works with your 
   bookmarks
1. Open sidebar "bookmarks"
2. enter selection-sting into search-pand (for example WDVL for test-bookmarks)
3. right click  /  Open in a new window
   expected: a new window opens
   actual: nothing

Same Problem with "open in a new TAB"
It works, if you click the Bookmark from complete list without selection
You have the same problem in Bookmarks/ManageBookmarks

There might be a relation to
bug 117449    bug 164777 (which should be closed?)
bug 159377    bug 72361

It seems that this bug does no longer exist in
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030529

I made several tests and had no problem to open URIs from bookmark-selections in
new TABs or new WINDOWs
