User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030418 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030418 I am using an IMAP (MS Exchange server). At least one of the correspondents in my address book is always marked as junk even though I have selected the option to never mark such addresses as junk. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Go into Junk mail controls, and assure that "do not mark messags as junk if the sender is in my address book" is checked. 2.Update address book as required. 3. Actual Results: A message from a sender in my address book is marked junk. Expected Results: Message should not be marked junk. Here is an example header: Received: from dallas.jhuapl.edu ([128.244.197.22]) by spacemsg3.dom1.jhuapl.edu with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.5.2653.13) id HL5GJADG; Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:15:15 -0400 Received: from DIRECTORY-DAEMON by dallas.jhuapl.edu (PMDF V5.2-32 #40039) id <0HDJ00I01M9AZO@dallas.jhuapl.edu> for carrpd1@spacemsg.jhuapl.edu (ORCPT rfc822;Paul.Carr@jhuapl.edu); Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:15:10 -0400 (EDT) Received: from CONVERSION-DAEMON by dallas.jhuapl.edu (PMDF V5.2-32 #40039) id <0HDJ00I01M95Z9@dallas.jhuapl.edu> for Paul.Carr@jhuapl.edu; Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:15:05 -0400 (EDT) Received: from mcdc-us-smtp4.cdc.gov (smtpgw.cdc.gov [198.246.97.20]) by dallas.jhuapl.edu (PMDF V5.2-32 #40039) with ESMTP id <0HDJ00GBAM8Z00@dallas.jhuapl.edu> for Paul.Carr@jhuapl.edu; Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:15:04 -0400 (EDT) Received: from mcdc-us-tis.cdc.gov ([158.111.6.74]) by mcdc-us-smtp4.cdc.gov with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.5.2655.55) id JDLQKD93; Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:14:59 -0400 Received: by mcdc-us-tis.cdc.gov with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2653.19) id <JF3ZHG8Z>; Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:14:59 -0400 Content-return: allowed Date: Fri, 18 Apr 2003 10:14:56 -0400 From: "Abma, Joyce C." <jza2@cdc.gov> Subject: RE: FW: Lukens message To: "'Carr, Paul'" <Paul.Carr@jhuapl.edu> Message-id: <C79290593AB9D1118C9C0080D870032D0D2B0478@MCDC-HVL-1> MIME-version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2653.19) Content-type: multipart/alternative; boundary="Boundary_(ID_jOf4m4ZnOL03UvjM4gc8lw)" X-Sybari-Space: 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 This message is in MIME format. Paul, are you absolutely certain the address <jza2@cdc.gov> is in your address book?
Yes, this is my wife's e-mail address. BTW, after some training, the filter stopped classifying her messages as junk, so this bug will probably not be seen except on an untrained client. Theerfore, hard to reproduce.

Confirming, this just happened to be 5 minutes ago. Added someone to my Address Book but the e-mail was still filtered off. Using 1.3.1 on Windows XP. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3.1) Gecko/20030425

Got email from "mozilla-daemon@localhost.localdomain". It was not in my personal address book and was classified as junk and moved to the junk folder. I then added this address to my Personal Address Book and attempted to move the unread message from junk to inbox. It immediately went back to junk when inbox (imap) was accessed. (If I mark the message as read and then move it to inbox it stays there.) Also, restarted moz and mailnews and still see same problem. Then I send the message again from bugzilla. It still goes to junk when received. I also notice that when initially put in junk folder by system, it is NOT marked as junk with the icon. (I have noticed other spammer addresses that are lower case email addresses in the "sender" (from) column also sometimes are moved to junk but w/o the junk icon.) Observeration: When 98% of your mail is spam (and many spammers put in tons of "acceptable" words) almost everything gets classed as junk and filtering by known address takes over. If filtering by know address does not work, good mail gets put in junk folder too.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a3) Gecko/20040817 This is not limited to Mac platform--it happens on Windows XP as well. I am using ising IMAP mail store, and have "do not mark messages as junk if the sender is in my address book" checked, with my local address book called "tbrown" selected (which contains the E-mail address being marked as junk). Ironically, it is my wife's E-mail address which is being marked as junk as well :-)

I'm going to confirm this based on duplicates and multiple reporters, and update the platform/OS per comment 7. But, as suggested in comment 2, this is a hard bug to reproduce. xref bug 210893.

no response. it's likely a dupe of a fixed bug but wouldn't be able to verify since no one in bug is responding, so closing incomplete (can' test myself b/c I don't use jmc)
