Have you tried going to Edit->Preferences->Appearance->Fonts and checking that "Allow documents to use other fonts" is checked ? If so, please try this with a recent nightly and a fresh profile. Thanks.
worksforme with 2004041608 mozilla 1.7 branch build on windows XP.
