User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030416 Phoenix/0.5+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030416 Phoenix/0.5+ I have a laptop with a small resolution of 800x600. When I try to set some preferences in Tools -> Options... I get a window which is actually larger than 800x600. I hardly can see the OK and Cancel buttons and what preference I'm about to configure is out of my sight as the left navicons are nearly invisible. The upper region is also out of my sight so I'm not sure if every preference is editable. But the proxy settings are editable so at least I can configure them. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Resolution of 800x600 2. open Tools -> Options... Actual Results: Preferences dialog is bigger than 800x600 Expected Results: A proper dialog which scales down to 800x600. Maybe with sort of tabs as the preferences navigation icons are big and take too much space.
Reporter: Please attach a screenshot of the problem.
Whiteboard: dup.164730?
This is the requested screenshot. As I can see this it's a similar bug to 164730. But I'm using a nightly build from mozilla.org. And I'm using Debian testing as of this writing.
Thank you for your help. Would you test if this can also reproduce with mozilla?
Both Debian mozilla 1.0.0 and the latest nightly build from mozilla.org seems to do it right. Both Preferences dialogs appear much smaller than 800x600.
thanks. Can anybody reproduce it?

I don't have access to my Linux box at the moment - I'll take a look on Wednesday when I do.
I'm not getting that problem at 800x600... there's something about your fonts that is different though. Did you build from CVS with xft enabled?
No, it's a nightly build from mozilla.org. I don't have libxft installed. I have a running xfs as it's default on a debian host.
This bug is also somewhat similar to bug #171454
Reporter, is this still happening to you? What DPI is Mozilla using? Do this to discover system resolution: xdpyinfo -display :0 | grep resolution Using a lower DPI will shrink the UI fonts and the prefs dialog. See http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206975#c2 for an alternative to the clunky 'prefs->appearance->fonts' method of setting Mozilla to use a different DPI.
My resolution is 100x100 dpi. I downloaded the last nightly build and it works now! The Preferences Dialog is now small, beautiful and useable. Thanks!
