WebCompat would like country information for a limited number of countries in the eTLD+1 pageload event. This should be okay as long as we only do it on Release and for countries with plenty of users.

The following countries were requested:

  • United States
  • Germany
  • France
  • United Kingdom
  • Canada
  • Poland
  • Japan
  • India
  • Brazil
  • Indonesia
  • Mexico
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • Netherlands

All of these should have plenty of users on release for there to be no real fingerprinting risk (with the other mitigations we have in place) as far as I can tell.

This adds country data to our pageload events with domain information. Since this information can be highly fingerprintable for situations with few users in a country/channel combination, we only collect this on release, for users in specific countries where we know we have a good amount of users. This should bring the majority of the value with no risk of accidentally collecting user data.
