User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; de-AT; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030423 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; de-AT; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030423 When creating a new profile the window where to put profile name is too small. So the buttons for creating new directory aren't visible. (1280x1024, small fonts, modern theme) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I can reproduce this with profile name containing more than 44 characters. Checking to see if there is a limit to size of profile name-
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
From original developer: As far as I know, there is no limit on the number of characters. However, I remember that there is (was) a bug that requested us to limit the name to 32 characters (folder names longer than that have some problems) so that it works well on Macintosh. I think that is bug 59524
I don't think it's bug 59524. The folder name has 12 characters ("Default User") - the default value of mozilla which is shorter than 32.
sorry for misunderstanding- bug 59524 is the only bug that exists prior to this one that deals with putting a limit on size of profile- which probably should be size of profile 'path' I believe this is valid bug- path should wrap and not push buttons off UI and it is easily reproducable
I can reproduce this bug as well (and it quite annoys me:) OS: Win XP Pro (german) Moz: at least v1.3.1 and v1.4 Description: When creating a new profile, the profile manager suggests a default path. In my case, it's "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\{MyAccountName}\Anwendungsdaten\Mozilla\Profiles\default user". If my account name is less than 13 chars long or contains spaces, the path will be split up in several lines and the "Region selection" and "Choose folder" buttons are reachable. In other words, if your default path contains a segment of 68 characters without spaces, those buttons disappear. (unfortunately, 'Administrator' is long enough so that I'm not able to change this profile path) I like to suggest a few possible solutions: - allow the profile manager window to be sizeable - allow word wrapping at spaces and directory delimiters ('/' or '\') - use abbreviations (not recommendable, IMHO) One final remark: I guess it's not easy to reproduce this bug using english versions of WinXP (and probably NT) because the folder 'application data' contains a space while it's german counterpart 'Anwendungsdateien' does not. So your account name has to be much longer before any problems occur.
... and yet another remark: While using for the first time, the profile manager tries to create a profile directory called 'default user', but actually a directory named 'default' (no trailing space character!) will be created. I guess that it's related to the problem mentioned above...

A very similar problem just has been solved in Bug 123370 Entering a new profile name pushes the buttons out of the dialog box
Depends on: 220891
Fixed via bug 220891. The buttons are now on the bottom of the wizard so they aren't pushed out of the visible area when the profile name is long.
