I am running netscape an a remote machine, pc, dual PII 450 and 245 ram, and
exporting the display to my local machine, pc, 133, 96 ram, over a lan. The
browser behave ok most of the time, but has lots of strange display problems and
invariably locks when I try to refresh a page with JAVA applets in it.

Are you using Netscape 4.x or Mozilla 5.0? Can you also include the URLs for the
test applets? Thanks.

I don't see how this can be a bug; there is currently no OJI-compliant Java
Plug-In for Linux, at least, not that works with current Mozilla builds. If you
are trying to use the Blackdown Java Plug-In with their port of JDK 1.2.2, that
won't work: JDK 1.2.2's Java Plug-In was written months ago, against the Mozilla
API's of several months ago. Mozilla API's have changed enough since then that
the JDK 1.2.2 Java Plug-In no longer works.
My sad recommendation is that you wait for JDK 1.3 to become available for
Linux, which will happen in the next few months, on way or another.
I am closing this bug out as "INVALID" since, without more details, I can't see
how OJI could possibly be the cause of Linux bugs that you mention here. If you
can provide more details about the bug, please feel free to re-open it, and I
will gladly look into it. Bottom line, I want to help fix problems that exist.
