User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030401
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030401
In preferences / privacy and security / popup windows I selcted block
unrequested windows. Under allowed sites I put the addresses of the three banks
I use most as they all have popups to log on to their services.
I tried restarting the browser but it made no difference.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.block popups
2.allow www.stgeorge.com.au
3.go to www.stgeorge.com.au
4.click log on
Actual Results:
heard sound I selected to signify blocked popup. log on window did not popup
Expected Results:
log on window should popup
newly reinstalled windows98se. antivir antivirus software running. modern theme
- one of the two that comes with mozilla. netscape not installed because of
previous problems with mail settings. mail settings only using newsgroups so far.
This is still a bug in both Mozilla 1.5 and in Firebird .7
Using the Windows build on XP, popups at my bank are blocked despite being added
to the exceptions whitelist. Unblocking popups in general allows the popup to
load normally.
FYI, the popup window in question at my bank happens when a link is clicked.
The link runs Javascript.
This bug keeps being reported to me as a flaw in Mozilla ("can't show popups")
When I say that the Pref just needs to be changed temporarily, the users say
that it is "easier" to just use IE all the time in case they _want_ a popup.
Summary: popup doesn't pop up despite being in list of exceptions → popup doesn't pop up despite being in list of exceptions

Bug Day: 1-13-2004
Tested With: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040113
I can confirm this bug. With popups ALLOWED for that domain, it still does not
show the popup. Popup does show in IE (of course they do, IE is all about popups).
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true

I also face this bug. I am using Build 2004042409 on WinXP Pro

The popup is not served from http://www.stgeorge.com.au/, but from another
subdomain of stgeorge.com.au (ibank). If you grant permission to stgeorge.com.au
instead (skip the www) the popup will display just fine.
I recommend marking this bug as invalid.
I have this problem with servers that are in my local area network. After
popping up several times, popup is denied. May be there is a threshold counter
for too many popups somewhere in the mozilla code?

Starting with v0.9 (v0.8 does not have this bug), I have observed that Popups
are disabled for a specific site after 20, 30, or 40 popups (don't know the
exact number) are requested on a specific page. In my case, I am editing a
webpage over the internet. This editor used popup windows to edit a page.
v0.9 and v1.0 both have this bug in it. (v0.8 works OK)
Some code in Mozilla overrides the setting to allow popups on this site. No
matter what I did to change the settings (enable, disable, enable, disable),
popups would NOT be allowed. The only way out of this popup disabled lockdown
is to terminate all Mozilla windows and then restart. The first attempt to
request a popup window is block with a message - then I am able to Enable popups
- popups start working again.
I edited a website that uses popup windows for each change requested. It
stopped working as I described above. But I also discovered that after
shutting down all FireFox windows, and re-starting FireFox, code in FireFox
disabled popups after about 3 or 4 popup windows were used.
This bug forced me to change back to version 0.8 so I can continue to edit
websites. BUT 0.8 DOES NOT WORK now. I reinstalled v1.0 and it runs OK, but
when I uninstall it and re-install v0.8, v0.8 does not work.
SO unfortunately, I am forced back to IE v6.0, until this BUG is fixed.
NOTE: I can duplicate this consistantly. If any developer cannot reproduce
this, I can create a test website from which you can duplicate this BUG over and
over again.
As someone else observed, there appears to be a counter in the FireFox code with
a memory - it allows x number of popups and then it shuts down popups for a site
even though it is listed as ALLOW. I also had "Block Popup Windows" checked.
I am using XP Pro OS.

Update on Popup Bug - New Bug has appeared.
Last night I was editing a website and popup windows my software uses stopped
poppping up. An X appeared in the lower right-hand corner of browser (FireFox
v1.0). The setting in the browser for "Block Popup Windows" is UNCHECKED.
I thought that if I ALLOWED ALL POPUPS I would not be affected by the known
Popup Bug that disables popups even thought the site is listed under ALLOW SITES.
So I suprized to see last night that Popups were DISABLED for the site I was
working on even though the setting in the browser for "Block Popup Windows" is
UNCHECKED. I terminated all FireFox windows and popups started working again.
In my opinion, it is time to raise this BUG to the Highest Priority and have it
resolved. If I or anyone else configures FireFox to ALLOW ALL POPUPs and popups
are suddenly disabled, we are shut down, and this wonderful browser cannot be
used. So please raise this Bug to the Highest Priority.
Again, I can setup a test website for any developer who needs to reproduce this bug.

Update on Popup Bug and New Bug has appeared - New Data Point Discovered. (Using
XP Pro)
Last night while editing a website, popups were disabled even though ALL POPUPs
were ALLOWED. This morning I terminated all FirFox v1.0 windows and tried to
edit a website this morning - POPUPS WERE NOT ALLOWED.
--** NEW DATA POINT FOR DEVELOPERS **--
I CLEARED Cache and tried to edit the website once again. I received a message
about the Block, but noticed that I was given the choice this time to ALLOW
Popups on this site. I click on this option and Popups atarted working again.
So it appears that Clearing Cache is a possible work-around for this Bug. I
will let you know if this works the next time this Bug raises its head.

I discovered that the USER WORK-AROUND for this Bug requires three steps:
1). Clear Cache
2). Close all FireFox v1.0 Windows
3). Restart FireFox

Ok guys - Today at about 11 AM CST (daylight saving in effect), the User
WORKAROUND I identified almost a year ago NO LONGER WORKS!!!
I do not understand why this work-around stopped working since my last
upgraded to Firefox v1.0.6 was some time ago.
The version of Firefox I am using today==> Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT
5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6
-Operating OS: XP Pro.
Observation:
When I click on the Clear Cache button, I noticed the button does NOT grey
out, as it does when you click on Clear Cookies button (if I remember
correctly, it use to grey out after clicking on it). It appears that the
Clear Cache is NOT WORKING CORRECTLY any longer.
Mozilla Weakness - No Response to Bug Reports:
Guys, I reported this bug almost one year ago with specific information for
reproducing the bug. I have never received a single email response from
anyone in Mozilla, nor has anyone responded online in this Bug report area.
It appears that if one is not a member of the inner-mozilla-sanctum you are
ignored.
SUGGESTION - Respond to Bug Reports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Mozilla organization needs to figure out a way of responding to Bug
Reports without requiring a person to perform steps "a to z". Since I have
never received any response to my Bug report, I can only assume that these
reports go into a black hole - unseen by Mozilla.
I LOST AN HOUR OF WORK TODAY - Good Bye
Well guys, I have lost an hour of work today trying to understand this new bug
variation and trying to communicate with the Mozilla organization, because I
would like to see your further success. But since my work-around No Longer
works, you guys never respond, and apparently will never fix this bug, I have
to say Good-Bye to Mozilla Firefox...
Good Bye... good luck…
