Using today's 1.4 windows mozilla build, when I click on any PDF file, i only see an empty content window. I can also reproduce this in 1.4a. I am using adobe acrobat reader v.5.0.5 (which I think can with frame maker 6).

Brent, can you help narrow down when this happens? After clearning my cache and doing the "web browser update" that Acrobat asked, I couldn't reproudce anymore. If you are able to repro, please note the steps and try to generate a log with: NSPR_LOG_MODULES=nsHTTP:9,Plugin:9,PluginNPP:9,PluginNPN:9 NSPR_LOG_FILE=c:\logfile.txt

Testing with latest Mozilla ID: 2003051204, Acrobat Reader 5.0.5, and Acrobat Reader 5.1.0 O/S: WinXP Pro 1. Clean install of latest Mozilla 2. Clean install of Acrobat 5.0.5 and/or 5.1.0 3. Load a .pdf file for the first time Results: User is prompted with the Acrobat Software License Agreement then that window may immediately lose focus and move behind the "Blank" Mozilla window that's trying to display the .pdf file. I have also seen this license agreement window stay in focus after a clean install and initial loading of a .pdf file. If the blank Mozilla window appears, try Alt+Tabbing to regain the license agreement window's focus, and then selecting the "Accept" button, the .pdf file is then viewable within Mozilla. Any subsequent .pdf file will load just fine. I successfully tested all the links specified at: http://acroeng.adobe.com/BrowserTestSuite/bserve/
I was also successful at testing with latest Nscp 1.4b and all .pdf files loaded just fine with both Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 and 5.1.0

Peter have you experienced blank .pdf files? The only time I have experienced a blank .pdf is after the initial launch of acrobat/.pdf file within the browser. As I mentioned above, the acrobat license agreement dialog loses focus and hides behind the browser... leaving the browser window/.pdf appearing to be blank. Alt+Tab to access the license agreement dialog and selecting Accept will enable loading of the .pdf file.

I have experienced this several times at different sites. For the moment I haven't any example to give. Mozilla 1.4b build id 2003050714. Win 98SE. Adobe acrobat 4.0.

Acrobat 4.0 is very old. Update to 5.0 and see if you can reproudce. I don't think this bug should be blocking 1.4 since it happens infrequently or with old plugins.

hm...ok, here's what I think may be going on: recently with bug 172786 the size of data in the ODA call in the stream listener changed. The problem was detected and fixed with bug 206530 on (5/21) when Quicktime started crashing. Can anyone repro in recent builds? And if so, can you attach an NSPR log?

I fixed my problem, at least for now, by doing a repair on Acrobat Reader 6.0. Crossing my fingers.

I had the same problem on Win2000 since Mozilla 1.3.1, Acrobat 5 - now using Mozilla 1.5a, Acrobat 6: PDFs don't load. Empty page is shown with status message "done". The same silly Acrobat Reader 6.0 repair worked for me. That "repair" was needed right after installing it fresh. But IE6 won't have that problem, I guess, at least it didn't have this problem with Acrobat 5.5.

The focus issue in comment 4 is bug 208442, I believe.

I can reproduce the error: Clicking on a PDF leads to a blank window. A short glimpse of a Acrobat Reader window displays but disappears. The URI "about:plugins" shows to me that the plugin is there: File name: nppdf.so MIME Type Desciption Suffixes Enabled application/pdf Portable Document Format pdf Yes The browser identifies himself: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a2) Gecko/20040713 Firefox/0.9.1+ It was built from a source rpm which uses current cvs sources. The Acrobat Reader version is 5.0.8. Hint: I was told to recompile the browser with GTK 1 which should work around this problem but the build fails. The bug always reproducable.

After upgrading mozilla to build 2004071105 on linux, I was observing this bug on any pdf-file unconditionally. Upgrading to 2004071906 did not resolve the problem. I could not alt-tab to any license agreement. After starting mozilla with a different profile, however, the bug disappeared (in all profiles).

Starting with a different profile (as written in #29) did not help in my case (comment #28).

I think I have a handle to this bug 1) Start Mozilla ( iam using 1.7) 2) Go to a web site and click on a PDF link 3) Windows will start AcroRd342.exe Process and the PDF file will open fine 4) Close the Tab (or the window) containing the PDF File 5) Try to open another PDf file...nothing happens...the status bar just shows 'Stopped' 6) Go to Task Manager and kill AcroRd32.exe 7) Repeat steps 2 and 3 and everything works fine

This was fixed for me by updating Adobe Acrobat Reader to version 6.0.2, at least in Mozilla suite on Windows. To update, open the standalone reader and go to Help/Updates.

I have been having this problem since I started using Mozilla. Currently I am using Mozilla 1.5, and Adobe Reader 6.0. Sometimes PDF files do show after I clear the local file cache, but usually they don't. I noticed that Mozilla often downloads the whole file (HTTP GET), and then issues one or more additional HTTP GET requests with "Range" HTTP header, e.g. Range: bytes=86808-87802,8465-86807. The server responds to this partial read request with HTTP 206 Partial Content. I am not sure whether partial content is served correctly or not, but some bytes do arrive. Anway, after this second Mozilla chokes with "stopped" in the status bar and blank page.

PDF files cannot be opened using Foxfire 1.5.0.1. It hangs with 99% cpu usage forcing me to kill the browser. I did not have this problem with version 1.4. I'm using Acrobat reader 7.0.7. and Windows XP Pro SP2 The problem goes away when I make IE 6.0 the default browser. On previous occasions it would hang only when I try to close the PDF file. This is a serious problem (not normal)because I'm forced to make IE my default brower.

I have observed this problem when running Acrobat 7.0.7 on Firefox/1.5.0.1 on a XP-Home-sp2 system. If I try and open a .pdf larger than 10MB the system seems to time out and the .pdf reader says 'The file is corrupt' - i dont have these problems in IE when check out the same files. The hard thing with this issue is that it comes and it goes, pretty random. Might be an acrobat bug... See if you can replicate- http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hus/hus05.pdf Additionally, I have noticed you cannot open a new tab while the .pdf is engaged MOST of the time. Occassionally it works - but only if you actually go into the file menu to open the new tab. CNTL+T does not work - this may be related to an acrobat override of that functionality when its inside of firefox.

According to Comment #3, problem when Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 or near sounds to be already resolved by 5.1.0. According to Bug 204017(crash) and Bug 214137(hang) and comment #32, problem when Adobe Acrobat (Reader) 6.0(.0) looks to be resolved by Adobe Acrobat (Reader) 6.0.1. And problem when Adobe Reader/Acrobat 7.0.x seems to be different from problem when 5.0.5 and 6.0(.0). See meta Bug 336184. To comment posters of problem when Adobe Acrobat (Reader) 6.0(.0) : Read meta Bug 336184 comment #2, and see dependency tree of Bug 336184, and read bugs for 6.0(.0) pointed by the tree. Isn't your problem Bug 204017 or Bug 214137? To Jim Ronback(Comment #38) and John Serrao(Comment #41) : See dependency tree of Bug 336184, and read bug reports for 7.0.x. Are there any already reported problem when 7.0.x? Anyway, I think this bug, which is problem when 5.0.5, is better to be closed as WORKSFORME based on comment #3.
