When travelling to sites with certain banner-style advertisements (ads by
ieplugin are one example, though the sites they appear on vary), the appearance
of the banner ad is immediately followed by a refresh of the main browser window
to a page related to the ad.

For example, I load a page which happens to have an banner ad in
the rotation. When that ad comes up as I load the page, it immediately
refreshes the current tab/pane to a different page.

I don't know if this is related to me blocking popups by default. I also don't
know the mechanism by which this happens. It might be an error in handling a
refresh when popups are blocked, or it might be malicious code that detects the
blocked popup and redirects the browser instead.

What I would like to see is a new option with regards to refreshing.
Refresh to same domain (Yes/No/Prompt)
Refresh to different domain (Yes/No/Prompt)

Alternatively, allow blocking refresh and then allow selectively for different
web sites (like the existing mechanism for javascript popups).

Reproducible: Always

URL of a site with ads?

The ad was only one example, and it was on a rotation that included
other ads. I cannot reproduce it.

I have another site that displays similar behavior (got this as a random link
off a newsgroup):

In IE, this results in the gallery coming up, but a full-screen pop-under ad
also comes up.

In Mozilla, the full-screen pop-under does not appear (whether or not popup ads
are enabled!) but instead the main browser window is redirected to an advert page.

Hope that helps you track down the problem!

I get a "fullscreen" popupnder add just like what you said IE does. is the page that is really causing the problem.
In that page is the code
function loadpopup()
{document.flauncher.submit(); focus(); setTimeout('focus()',2000);}
That would be a dupe of bug 144726

1.4b was just released you my want to fully uninstall 1.4a and try 1.4b

Dave, can you check about:config and see if browser.block.target_new_window is
defined? Websites using the bug 144726 loophole, together with the
target_new_window block, could cause the behavior you're seeing.

That pref itself isn't exposed anymore, since it's buggy, but maybe you still
have it from a previous version.

Dave, are you still seeing this strange popup behavior in recent Mozilla builds,
and after trying Jesiah and Josh's advice? I'm almost positive that one or both
of those is the cause of what you're seeing. Any new information about this
issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

Marking invalid. Dave, if you can reproduce this in a recent build with the
target_new_window block preference disabled, please feel free to reopen.
