Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030507
After inserting an image, the newly inserted image is blank (white). If you
select it, you will get the handle bar controls but you cannot see the image.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new message
2. Insert "http://i.hot.com/img/HotCom.gif"
Actual Results:
No image appears in compose window but if you select the message body, you will
find that it inserted a blank image of the same size.
Expected Results:
It should have displayed the image properly.

This is a showstopper bug. It still shows up in the nightly build 2003051608.
Interestingly, a previous nightly build did not exhibit the problem. Do we have
a regression bug lurking here?

This is happening again in latest nightly build (2003061904). I did more
research and found that it happens when you use an URL e.g.
http://mozilla.org/images/mozilla-banner.gif instead of a filename on your hard
disk for the image you want to insert.

It turns out the "Do not load remote images for Mail and News" preference was
checked. It would be nice if there was a way to load remote images for messages
that you compose/send but not for messages that you receive (e.g. to eliminate
unwanted web beacons and spam)
Here's an idea that perhaps should be filed as an enhancement: Enable remote
loading of images if the Sender address is in your personal address book.

=>Invalid, per reporter's comment 3.
Robert La Ferla, if you would like to open a bug to request that feature, feel
free to do so; be sure to set the severity on that bug to 'enhancement'.
