Automatic proxy cojnfiguration with URL doen't seem to work for me
after updating from 1.3.1 to 1.4b. The proxy.pac is available in our
intranet. Using PAC configuration in 1.4b makes all hosts in the outer
world (only available through the proxy) unavailable. Intranet hosts
work as before. In 1.3.1 also PAC worked OK. Using manual proxy
configuration in 1.4b works ok (but is not an option). We are running
Squid 2.4.
The proxy.pac file is as follows:
function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
{
if (isInNet(host, "127.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0")) {
return "DIRECT";
}
if (isInNet(myIpAddress(), "10.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0") ||
isInNet(myIpAddress(), "192.168.0.0", "255.255.0.0") ||
isInNet(myIpAddress(), "172.16.0.0", "255.255.0.0")) {
if ((isInNet(host, "10.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0") ||
isInNet(host, "192.168.0.0", "255.255.0.0") ||
isInNet(host, "172.16.0.0", "255.255.0.0"))
&& !isInNet(myIpAddress(), "10.15.0.0", "255.255.0.0")) {
return "DIRECT";
}
else {
return "PROXY www-cache.intra.foobar.com:8080";
}
}
else {
return "DIRECT";
}
}
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure proxy to use autoconfiguration url that provides a pac-file
2. Try to load a page that would need proxy (i.e. not accessible directly)
3. Loading doesn't work.
Actual Results:
It seems like Mozilla tries to contact hosts directly.
Expected Results:
It should have user proxy connections for hosts outside the intranet.
I was able to duplicate this bug by installing 1.4b OVER an existing 1.3.1 install. Installing a clean copy does not exhibit this behavior.
Steps to Fix if you installed over old versions of Mozilla:
1) Go to the control panel and uninstall Mozilla 1.4b.
2) Reinstall Mozilla 1.4b
3) Start Mozilla
4) Open the preferences dialog and select the proxy configuration page
5) Select "Direct Connect" and press the "OK" button
6) Reopen the preferences dialog and select the proxy configuration page
7) Reselect the "Use Autoproxy Script"
8) Press "reload" button
9) Press the "OK" button
Also make sure proxy.pac has the appropriate mime-type when returned by your web server.

mozilla does not support installing over top an old version. as it says in the
release notes you must uninstall the older version of mozilla manually.

Note that bug 205514 (just checked in) might help in this case. Upgrading over
an existing installation is still not recommended though.
