When you type Japanese characters and change the style to Italic by selecting menu and clicking Italic icon in toolbar,
the characters will be deleted.

Steps of reproduce
1. Open Composer
2. Turn on IME
3. Type some Japanese characters and hit the enter to commit
4. Select the Japanese characters you typed in step #3
5. Click on Italic icon in toolbar or select menu Format|Style->Italic

Notice that the Japanese characters will be deleted.

This happens 120108 and 120113 Win32 build under Windows 95J.
Italic function works fine under Windows 98J and Winnt 4.0J.

Behavior is wrong, but bobj agreed, probably not a dogfood. Putting on PDT-
radar

I assume there is no italic font for the selected Japanese font.
Shouldn't it just use the regular font in this case?

Are those character been deleted ? Plase use the Debug : Output HTML to see it
(the Japanese character will show up in the DOS window as dot) . If those
Japanese characters are deleted (no dot in DOS window), the it probably is a
editor problem instead of a rendering problem. If you hand code the html by
using 4.x and open it in the SeaMonkey composer, will it display ? If no, then
it is a rendering problem . If this is a editor problem, then please reassign to
jfrancis.

The term "dogfood" refers to whether *we* can use the browser to do our own
work. We don't normally try to italicize Japanese text, so I'm removing the
dogfood keyword.

Teruko, would you please test this when a new build with my fix for Win95-J
