Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030516 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
When you begin typing characters in the textbox at Google.ca, a drop down
listbox appears. If you hilite an item in the listbox but do not select it then
use a bookmark from your toolbar to change pages the listbox will remain on the
screen until you begin typing in another textbox.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to www.google.ca and type a few chars till the listbox appears
2.move the mouse over an item in the listbox so it is selected
3.Use a bookmark in the toolbar to open a new page
Actual Results:
The listbox was not erased and remained on the screen until I either started
typing in a new form or closed Firebird. Refresh had no effect.
Expected Results:
invalidated the listbox

Edgar, is this a new installation into a new directory together with a new
profile or did you re-use an already existing profile?

Confirming using Firebird (Build-ID 20030519-08) running under W2K SP3.
I could reproduce this using the following steps:
1. Go to a site using a text-inputfield (Google is a good as any other site).
2. Type something in (I used "canada")
3. Wait for the search to complete
4. Go back to the root page with the text-inputfield
5. Delete the contents of the text-inputfield
6. Type in the first two or three characters of the word you used before
7. Wait for the autocomplete dropdown-box to appear
8. Highlight the item in the dropdown-box
9. Open a new site via the Bookmarks-menu in the Navigation toolbar - I used
www.spiegel.de, but any other site should also work - You have to do this step
twice, because at the first time Firebird does not respond to the request to
open up a bookmarked site. This seems to be another bug.
10. There you are...
11. Type something into the upper right text-inputfield on www.spiegel.de and
see the highlighted dropdown-box disappear.
Erik, noririty, can you please test this again. I'm not confirming this bug
until I have feedback from you. Thanks.
Additional note 1:
This only happens, when you use the bookmarks-menu on the navigation toolbar.
Using the bookmarks sidebar or bookmarks toolbar, everything worked just fine.
Additional note 2:
If we confirm this, should this go into the Bookmarks-, Autocomplete- or
Toolbars-component?
Ok, can confirm now using Moz. Firebird Gecko/20030519 on Windows NT. Using a
bookmark from the bookmark MENU as discovered by Simon did the trick! :)
From my point of view this one should go to the Autocomplete component, since
the problem does not just occur using Bookmarks (try with other menus, e.g.
'Tools' -> 'JS Console' when the autocomplete box is present - by doing so you
also have to click twice and then the box stays open!).
There's also a chance that this relates to "Toolbars", but if so the devs will
sure find out quickly and reassign the bug.
Will just do a quick check whether this is a regression or not...
Hmm - perhaps this problem is caused by an already existing bug? Just
encountered that this is the same effect like the context menus staying "on top":
- click Bookmark Toolbar -> right click any bookmark -> context menu opens
- now click any other item (another bookmark or menu item): you have to click
twice (just like for the autocomplete box issue) and the context menu stays on
top (just like our autocomplete box, which stays also on top)
=> ?
Well, this bookmark context issue has been duped many times because of bug #197112.
Interestingly this bug has already been opened on 2003-03-12, but I can't
confirm this bug to be present in my 2003-03-xx and 2003-04-xx builds.
Now I checked the last good build where both this autocomplete box AND the
context menus vanishes and this was the 2003-05-04 build. Unfortunately I don't
have the upcoming builds so the first one for me showing BOTH bugs is the
2003-05-11 build => something happened between 2003-05-04 and 2003-05-11 which
causes this bug to appear on my NT box!
So either this one is also a dupe of bug #197112 or we have a totally different
bug here - but then also some of these "context-menus-don't-disappear" bugs
recently appeared in May possibly have been duped by false.
To stop digging in the dark I'd suggest duping this one also because of bug
#197112 and to wait for a fix for this one. If problem still persists after
#197112 has been fixed we can go on and reopen this one.

I don't think, that bug 197112 is necessarily the same issue. Another thing is
that dupes are very seldom reopened, even if their resolution was questionable.
I recommend confirmation and making this bug dependent on bug 197112. So if bug
197112 gets fixed, we can test whether this also fixes this bug or raise our
voice if it doesn't.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Component: General → Menus
Depends on: 197112
Ever confirmed: true
Keywords: regression
OS: Windows 2000 → All
Summary: Drop down list box is not erased when leaving page → Highlighted dropdown-form-autocomplete-list entry is not erased when using main menu

Oops, I tested using Bookmark Toolbar items.
And, yes. Now I can reproduce this.
I don't think this bug is related to bug 197112.
But it seems me related to bug 181141 and bug 180638.
It's totally autocomplete issue when should we close autocomplete tool tip list box.

Using Mozilla/5.0 (Win 2000; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030601 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
I can't reproduce this anymore.
Edgar, Erik and noririty, can you please test this again. Thanks.

The problem appears to have been resolved. I could not reproduce it either using
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030601 Mozilla
Firebird/0.6. Just a a side question is my email address displayed on this page
safe from spam spiders ?

Yeap - this is WFM using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US;
rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030601 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Interestingly the problem with the context menus I mentioned in comment #5 is
also gone now... ;o)
Concerning the mail address: I receive a lot of spam mails all sent to my
bugzilla-address - hence i suggest to not use your primary mail account for your
bugzilla account...

=> resolving WFM and removing dependency since bug #197112 is still present in
my build

Hmm, just made a check of bug #206057 and like already mentioned in comment #6
it seems we have some bugs resolved as duplicate because of bug #197112 which
aren't dupes since bug #206057 is gone now, too...
=> checking all bugs and re-opening / duping because of this one or keeping
everything as is and hoping no-one will ever complaining about it? :)
