Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030522 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030522 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
In Tools | Options | Fonts & colors, the font boxes of serif/sans-serif/monospace
fonts doesn't display all fonts, and the boxes for sans-serif and monospace are
just blank box without any fonts listed.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Phoenix with fresh prefs.js
2. Open Tools | Options | Fonts & Colors, edit, save, and exit options
3. Open Tools | Options | Fonts & Colors again
Actual Results:
You can't edit fonts for sans-serif and monospace anymore. The fonts actually
used to render pages are different from those listed in the Open Tools | Options
| Fonts & Colors, and once you save it you can't change them back.
Expected Results:
All fonts (in my case, Windows TrueType) available in the system should be
listed in all 3 boxes and you can select any fonts for those 3 kind of fonts.
The combo boxes for sans-serif and monospace are thinner than that of Serif, and
nothing is listed in them. Serif combo box has some fonts listed, but not all.
Mozilla of Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b)
Gecko/20030522 correctly displays all fonts in the combo boxes and you can
configure & save them.
Arthur, I just tried your steps provided to reproduce this problem and at least
your actual result "You can't edit fonts for sans-serif and monospace anymore."
works for me using Mozilla Firebird Gecko/20030522 on NT 4.0.
Nevertheless it would be interesting to know whether this problem also occurs
using latest SeaMonkey?
Another point which makes me wonder is your sentence "Install Phoenix with fresh
prefs.js" - did you also tried to install Moz. Firebird with a complete new
profile by starting Moz. Firebird with option "-p"?

Erik: no, I didn't do -p, and did -p then found the correct step to reproduce,
though a bit complicated.
1. Install Phoenix with fresh prefs.js
2. Open Tools | Options | Fonts & Colors
3. Select a locale other than "Western" in "Fonts for" (In my case I tested
Traditional Chinese and Japanese)
4. Change Proportional to Sans-Serif
5. Edit Serif, Sans-Serif, Monospace fields
6. OK and exit Options
7. Open Tools | Options | Fonts & Colors again
Now you can't change fonts you set in Step 4.
I examined the Preference in Mozilla suite again, and found that Firebird
displays only fonts that match (?) to encoding or something.
For example, in "Western", the listing in Serif box in Mozilla Preference is like:
#################################################
[System Default]
------------------------------- (separator line)
Century
CenturyOld
Georgia
.
.
.
Times New Roman
-------------------------------- (another separator)
%Century Oldst
Arial
.
.
.
###############################################
and you can set fonts under the second separator, but in Firebird,
it simply omits listing of all the fonts under the second separator and the line
"[System Defaults]". It may be by design, but it should be submit as another bug
if so.
Summary: Can't change fonts (serif/sans-serif/monospace) → Can't change fonts after editing non-Western fonts sets
