If you switch profiles in Mozilla, it always opens with the Mozilla Browser
window no matter from where you've switched.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create some test profile
2. Open Mozilla Mail for that profile
3. Select "Tools" --> "Switch profile..."
Actual Results:
Mozilla switches the profile and opens with the Mozilla Browser window, no
matter from where you've switched (Mail, Composer) which is *very annoying*!
Expected Results:
After switching from Mozilla Mail the new profile should also open with the
Mozilla Mail window, not the Mozilla Browser window. If switched from Composer
it should open with Composer and so on...
In some way, yes. This bug exists because Mozilla probably doesn't pass any
information from which location it is switching the profile. It just starts with
default settings of the profile. But it should also allow the user to choose the
desired behaviour, e.g.:
-- clean start (no profile switching) --> run those parts of Mozilla, that the
user has chosen in his profiles preferences
-- profile switching from on of the components --> run the same component for
the selected profile (this should be hardcoded?)
For me it's more a feature I'd like to see than a bug.

I question the annoyance factor: why should a different profile respect what
another profile had open? Switching should respect the startup behavior in
Preferences > Appearance.
There are for sure users, like me, that have two or more profiles for the same
system account.
Changing severity to "enhancement".
Severity: normal → enhancement

I just lost some data on a form I was filling in when switching profiles.
Perhaps 'switch profile' can WARN when switching that all data from the old
profile will be lost? This is especially relevant if one is typing a mail
(untested) and switches.
