User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030601 The pre-compiled version of mozilla i can download works ok, but i've also been building mozilla from cvs dozens of times over the past several months. i remember this was a common bug many months ago, and i have read about it as having been fixed. i have been building from cvs, and both mozilla and phoenix exhibit the same behavior. This is on old redhat 6.2, but i've tried every different option i can in .mozconfig over the months, and every version i compile freezes when i select text in the url bar. if not the first time i try then the second. I've tried about 50 different .mozconfig's, while updating cvs many times over the months. i updated yesterday, and it's the same thing. Just trying to put the cursor in the url box to type a url freezes mozilla. With mozilla binary builds from the mozilla site, i occasionally lost the ability to enter text in a form or in the url bar, but if i change workspaces, then change back, i am then able to enter text. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.cvs build on redhat 6.2 2.select text in url bar 3.freez Actual Results: freeze Expected Results: let me enter text.

sure enough, as soon i post it, i figure it out a few hours later. the bug shows up when when mozilla is linked against xfree86 3.3.6. when i changed my paths to make mozilla link against xfree86 4.3 instead the bug is gone. so guess it's something between xfree 3.3.6 and mozilla.
I'm using Mozilla 1.5b Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030827 and I have the same problem. Only if I edit the URL location field before any other navigation. weird. (it happened in 1.4 release also.) Redhat 9.0 on an ibm thinkpad x24. It does not happen on my dell laptop.

i was basically unsuccessful getting any mozilla past 1.2.1 to be stable on my machine, downloaded binaries or cvs builds. someone posted on linuxquestions that the bug could be gotten around by disabling "find links as you type" in preferences. i've tried 1.4, 1.5 1.6 and 1.7 generally anyway, from cvs build's i've saved over time, and that works for me. not a crash from the url bar since. just one from selecting mail in a build that didn't have mail built in or just didn't work. i don't know which. i just built 1.6, and it's perfect. disabling the find links of course.
