Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030516 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030516 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
If Mozilla Firebird is alredy running, clicking on a URL in another application,
such as a word processor document or e-mail, will open the User Profile Manager
and deny you access to your own profile.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Mozilla Firebird must be your system's default browser. First launch (but
keep in mind that this problem doesn't happen if you originally launch Firebird
by clicking a link in another app; it happens only when the initial launch is
done by clicking the Firebird icon).
2. Open a program that has a link in it (e.g, a word processor with a URL in a
document, or an e-mail client in which a message has a URL in it).
3. Click on the URL.
Actual Results:
The User Profile Manager will open and tell you to select a Phoenix profile. If
you choose your profile you'll be told that it's already in use. This is rather
serious annoyance because it means if my browser is open I can't follow links
sent to me in e-mail.
Expected Results:
Ideally you should get a redirection to the new URL in your existing browser
session.
Mozilla 1.3 Quick Launch is running in the background, but I don't think it's
doing any harm.

Works for me on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b)
Gecko/20030603 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Have you tried a clean install with a new profile before doing this? Also, have
you tested with the mentioned Quick Launch disabled?
Please try the above suggestions and add the results to this bug. Thanks!
This is WFM using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.4b)
Gecko/20030603 Mozilla Firebird/0.6 running together with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows;
U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030603 as Quicklaunch in the background.
I started Mozilla Seamonkey, set it to use Quicklaunch, Closed Mozilla Seamonkey
so it stays just in the tray, started Moz.Firebird, opened Winword, created a
link in a Word Document and finally clicked the link. result: the already
existing instance of Mozilla Firebird opens the URI. So please provide the steps
provided by Mike (especially creating a new profile by starting Moz.Firebird
with option "-p") and come back with any results.

WFM Mozilla/5.0 (Windows 2000; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030603 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Hi. Original bug poster here. I tried a few things and even posted a
screenshot online for you to see, and after all of it I discovered the REAL bug.
This is an incompatibility between Mozilla 1.3 (and perhaps other versions) and
Mozilla Firebird.
It turns out that Mozilla 1.3 is my default browser, whereas I thought I had set
it to Mozilla Firebird (I've used Phoenix 0.4 and later for so long that I
didn't realize it had changed. Sorry about not having my facts straight).
However the QuickLaunch was a red herring, as was the URL-in-other-apps detail.
So the real bug is this: if Mozilla Firebird is running you can't launch
Mozilla without encountering this error. Should I file a new bug report or is
this a known issue?

Reporter, this would be a separate bug, just to keep things clean within the
bug. If anything, it would be a bug in how Mozilla detects other browser
instances, rather than a Firebird bug.
INVALID -> bug in Mozilla, not Firebird.
