It would be handy if there is a way to save the encrypted password store to a
file and reload it to a fresh profile when user provide with the key.

A lot of the time when one moves from older version of Mozilla the profile can't
be used and have to be recreated. Most of the other settings can be easily
"reset" by the user, but my list of password is not.

It would be great if one can save this password list to a file, locked by a key.
When I need to recreate the profile I can just save the password list to the
file and reload it when I have create a new profile, as long as I have the key.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
It's already saves in a file : Profile\random_number.s and this can be very easy
imported if you modify the prefs.js and/or the filename of the stored file.
It would be better though if it is easily accessible from Tools -> Password
Manager menu.
What you are asking for is very nice, but probably unclearly stated. Let me
change this bug, I hope you like it.

So in effect you are asking to export the password list (that might not be
strictly needed since -- as Matti said -- it is already in some textfile) and to
import it again (think you want to join the passord files of two profiles).

The key here is not to just replace an existing file!

yes - but then I would probably like to be able to see the password in plain
text in some ways(I know the security issue, but it is pretty handy if you have
forgotten some password and you want to be able to recover it! Of course you
should have all sorts of dialogues to shout at user!)

But the main thing is to able to export and merge password files from different
profile as Boris says.
Actually, there is a plugin to allow you the display of the passwords in the
password manager. Sorry, I cannot say where to find it.

Is this the same as bug 180582?

Yes I think it is describing the same problem.

Actually, it is not the same. Bug 180582 asks for exporting, this one also for
importing which is more.

That is the reason why multible issues / bug report are invalid.
Dupe of bug 113581 (wontfix)

Pushing bugs around like this is really the best way to push away users:-(

There is some real new argument to this bug which does not exist in the bug
this is duped to. So here is a new one: bug 250160

Can you supply more info on this? I don't seem to have a "random_number.s" or
any .s files in my profile folder or subfolders. I also do not have an entry in
the prefs.js file which would indicate a reference to a password file or similar.

Help!
Look in your profile directory. But anyhow, you cannot import this way, you can
only *replace* one password file with another.
