Tips from EmailDiscussions user Lee in a Mozilla Problems thread (via MrElvey):
Using Lee's settings linked-to as above, tried the
'create FastMail imap new folder [newfolder] FastMail web interface |
immediately attempt subscribe folder Mozilla 1.3.1'
sequence.
Same 'all pre-existing Mozilla folders lose all pre-existing Mozilla folders
email headers/bodies - pre-existing Mozilla folders remain'.
In OutlookExpress, newfolder immediately subscribed, no pre-existing OE folders
pre-existing OE email headers/bodies lost.
Same in Mozilla if rename a imap account pre-existing folder.
Same had occurred with Mozilla 1.3 - now 1.3.1 .
So, have learned to create new folder or rename a folder in Mozilla.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create new folder [newfolder] FastMail web interface. Logout.
2. Open MozillaMail
3. Select imap account | Properties | Subscribe
4. Newfolder subscribes.
5. All MozillaMail pre-existing folders pre-existing hearders/bodies no longer
exist - have to resync, redownload. All MozillaMail pre-exisitng folders remain.
6. In Outlook Express, newfolder subscribes, OE pre-existing folders
pre-existing email headers/bodies remain.
7. Current solution: Create new folder or rename existing folder in MozillaMail.
Newfolder subsribed-to in OE and FastMail web interface with no problem or
uninteded consequences.
Actual Results:
Loose all MozillaMail pre-existing folders pre-existing email headers/bodies.
Expected Results:
Subscribe new folder or renamed folder without other MozillaMail pre-existing
folder pre-exisiting email headers/bodies being 'lost' - NOT have to resync,
redownload all MozillaMail pre-existing folders' pre-existing email headers/bodies.
Using standard MozillaMail, theme, as downloaded, installed.

could you attach an imap protocol log of this happening? it doesn't happen with
other servers afaik.
http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap
However, the setting of the online server directory as INBOX. instead of using
the personal namespace INBOX. could be responsible. Also, are these folders
top-level folders are sub-folders? And you are using IMAP subscription, I assume.
