Hold down <Ctrl> and begin selecting messages (we'll call them A, B, and C). 1. Control-click message A; it gets highlighted in dark blue. 2. QUICKLY control-click message B (while A is still being downloaded or still being "painted" in the bottom preview pane). Message A will be UN-highlighted and message B will be highlighted. Any further selections, no matter how quick, will be highlighted no problem, because once you have multiple messages highlighted the preview pane stops updating. I suspect that there is something in the code which is trying to display the message text in the preview pane that gets in the way of selecting messages. As you test this and keep slecting messages, you'll find it harder to duplicate this as the messages you select become cached locally and the preview pane will draw so quickly that it's done before you control-click another message. Make sure to try to start out by selecting a message which requires a download from the IMAP server and then quickly control-click another while it's still working.
