Description

I've finally had some time to put together the information I have on javascript
cookies. This bug is a tracking/discussioni bug for the documents I will produce.

The focus is on a couple items:

- basic usage of document.cookie, and how it works in relation to the other
cookie FE and BE features.

- mozilla javascript permissions for cookies.

- any refernce material I can find.

- documentation of any javascript cookie test files I produce.

(optionally) some discussion about how other browsers work and/or how to test
them to compare the behavior.

-> assigned to me.

Here's a document that test javascript cookies on your browser and reports if it
is working or not. There is one minor bug where if you hit reload quickly, the
two timestamps will look the same, but I think it gets 99% of the job done for now.

http://www.mozilla.org/quality/networking/testing/cookies/jscookietest.html

We should start using this for situations where people swear they have "cookies
turned on" but it isn't working.

The sample code looks useful in:

http://devedge.netscape.com/library/manuals/2000/javascript/1.3/guide/advtopic.html#1017771

However, at some point, I'd like to do the following:

function setCookie(name, value, expire) -> add support for a secure flag parameter.

function getCookie(Name) -> looks like it only returns the first matching cookie
value.

A major change is bug 223782, which remoed the js-level permissions for cookies.

Uh, still in the works actually. I'll try to have something here by Dec1.

I'm somewhat involved in moving my older docs, and that is a higher priority.

The wiki will be waiting, if you ever find that round tuit.
