Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030622 Mozilla Firebird/0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030622 Mozilla Firebird/0.6 i open a new browser window (whether firebird was already running or not). i type a location or some keywords for google in one of the boxes in the toolbar. a few letters through whatever i'm typing, the browser window loses focus. focus reverts to the last window that had it before the browser window, leaving the rest of what i was typing in the wrong window. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. open new browser window 2. hit Ctrl-L or Ctrl-K 3. begin typing something Actual Results: the window loses focus Expected Results: the window does not lose focus this bug seems apparent on firebird 0.6/linux as distributed from mozilla.org, the ... appears to be 20030624 nightly binary for linux, 0.6 as distributed from mozilla.org for windows, and 0.6 as packaged into debian unstable (with gtk2 support; appears to be from 20030622).
it seems that the browser window only loses focus (in linux anyway) when the cursor is outside it. oh! my, how foolish of me: i think the autocomplete box has to come up and go away as well. searching for duplicates again...
similar to Bug 89106 but with location bar and search field, not Open Location dialog. sorry for repetitive postings
I can't reproduce this on W2K with the 20030702 build. Jared, can you test again with a current nightly and a fresh profile (and without any additional themes or extensions)?

I still can't repro this under Windows, but perhaps this is really Linux only. David, can you please take a look at this, since I can't test on Linux.
Whiteboard: needs to reprduce under Linux
Works for me using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030825 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1+ that'd be the GTK2+XFT build
Jared, is this still happening?
i still experience this bug. i'm running: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030824 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 i never tried it on windows like you asked me. if i've failed to mention it before, i'm using metacity, in focus-follows-mouse mode. hang on... ok. the bug does not appear to me in click-to-focus mode.
Summary: browser window loses focus while typing in location or search boxes → browser window loses focus while typing in location or search bar in focus-follows-mouse mode
Autocomplete has changed. Please retest.
Whiteboard: needs to reprduce under Linux
Jared, can you still reproduce this with a current build from ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firebird/nightly/latest-trunk and a fresh profile?
i have reproduced with debian release 0.7-5 (sorry, don't know the build id). i'm away from my net connection and my linux box though, probably till august.
Tauhida Parveen - 26 February, 2004 I could not reproduce this bug using firebird 0.7 in windows XP
