User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: Mozilla 1.4 June 30, 2003 Release (Do not know the build number and have uninstalled it.) After installing the June 30, 2003 release of Mozilla 1.4, I was unable to enter any information in the Preferences section. I also could not change from the Classic theme to any other themes. I experienced some problems with the browser too. I was also unable to type anything in the location box if it was empty and when there was a URL in the location box I was unable to type in the box unless I completely blocked over the current URL in the box. I never saw a flashing cursor in the location box in either situation. When at Google.com, the page did not display properly. The "Google Search" and "I'm Feeling Lucky" buttons underneath the data entry box did not display, but all of the other images on the page displayed properly. I also was unable to type information in the data entry box several times and when I was able to type information in the data entry box the blinking cursor first appeared in the center of the box and not to the left as it normally appears. I rebooted my computer serveral times and produced the same results as noted above. I uninstalled this build of Mozilla 1.4 using its uninstall program and then downloaded and installed Mozilla 1.4b, which was the oldest version of 1.4 that I saw on the website and still experienced the same problems that I had with the newer build. Since I was unable to use Mozilla 1.4, I uninstalled it using the uninstall program it comes with. I then reinstalled Mozilla 1.2.1, build Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130, which has been working properly for the most part on my computer since I installed it back in early December 2002. I did not experience any problems upon reinstalling Mozilla 1.2.1. I am not a programmer and apologize for not being able to identify the problem in a more technical format. I don't even know enough about programming to use your Search for a Bug page. I am however, a systems type person and am not ignorant to the operation and functionality of a PC and its software. I hope this information helps. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I am curious to find out what caused these problems and would appreciate being notified with this information if possible. Thank you for your time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Mozilla 1.4. 2.Reboot the computer. 3.Attempt to enter information in the Preferences section. Go to Google.com. Actual Results: The same problems noted above in the Details section. Expected Results: I believe Mozilla should have allowed me to enter or change anything I wanted to in the Preferences section. It should have allowed me to type in information in the location box without having a URL already in there and without having to block the entire URL. Should have displayed web pages properly. I listed this problem as Normal in the Severity section below, because it is possible that I am the only person to have experienced these problems so far and there may be a very small number of computers that experience these problems. On the other hand, it could be that many computers are experiencing similar problems and on a personal level, the severity is a Blocker for me since it prevents me from being able to use Mozilla 1.4.
Did you uninstall and delete your Mozilla program folder(not your profile dir) before installing the newer version of Mozilla?
Neal sent two emails basically saying that he tried my idea and that it made it worse:( . He also commented on the uninstall program saying, "it was extremely fast and removed all of the registry entries and files efficiently." Back to the problem... Try a new install again but this time create a new profile instead of using your existing profile. http://www.mozilla.gr.jp/~syamagu/mozhelp/1.3/original/profiles_help.html
Neal, have you tried the proposal from comment #2? Please answer in the bug report page, not per mail.
