I would like to move existing products to components of a new product. Now that
our applications have grown I would like to clean up the list of products
without losing the bugs that are associated with each app. Many applications
have been bundled into a major application I would like all those products to
be components of the new application. Is this possible now or in a future
release.
Reproducible: Always

1) Create a component in the new product that matches the old product
2) Run a query that retrieves all bugs in the old product
3) Click "Change several bugs at once" at the bottom of the query
4) Click the "Check All" button
5) Change the product popup menu to the new product
6) Click the "Commit" button
7) Choose the new component and other product-specific fields
8) Click the "Commit" button.
9) Delete the old product
You may need to repeat steps 2 through 8 individually with specific queries if
you need to preserve milestones and versions... this is the reason I'm leaving
the bug open, because it would be nice if there was a way to mass move things
between products without having to do them individually to avoid putting them
all in the same milestone/version.

It would be very helpful if the milestones and versions could be preserved when
they already exist in the new product (i.e. identical strings).
This could be an option on the "Verify Version, Component, Target Milestone"
page, e.g. "keep old value if it exists in the new product" with a checkbox
under each of the Version, Component, and Target menus.
I think that this would nicely solve what Joe and I are trying to do.
