Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624

Starting maybe at 1.4rc3 I noticed that both the browser and email would
periodically lose connectivity with the internet. To regain connectivity, it
is necessary to exit Mozilla and reload. I do not remember this ever happinging
in earlier editions.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just leave Mozilla idle for several hours with <say> yahoo.com on the
screen. When you come back you probably have a 50% chance of being "unlinked"
to the internet.
2.
3.

Expected Results:
Mozilla should never lose connectivity if the LAN connection is not lost.
Joe: Are you still having this problem using recent Mozilla builds? There have
been some major networking changes in recent nightly builds that may have fixed
this for you. Also, when Mozilla loses connectivity like this, are other
internet applications affected (Internet Explorer, instant messaging programs,
etc.)? It could potentially have been a temporary problem with your ISP. Is the
problem still occurring? Thanks.
Yes. I do have the problem still with version Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows
NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030827 but it does not seem to happen anymore
with the BROWSER. However, with the email client, I will try and send/receive
email (if the client computer is left idle with email up for say half a day or
more) I will get an error message saying something like "mail.atl.bellsouth.net
cannot be contacted". I will then exit Mozilla and reload and it works fine.

If someone has a version that supposedly has this fixed and will point me to it,
I will be happy to load it and give it a try.

Thanks.
Thanks for the reply Joe. A fairly safe recent build for you to try should be
the 9/16 one from the 1.5 branch. You can get it at
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/2003-09-16-16-1.5/mozilla-win32-installer-sea.exe

This is the code that will soon become Mozilla 1.5, and won't have any of the
risky changes that are in current nightly builds. You will want to upgrade to
1.5 when it comes out, but this should be close to final version quality code.
If this doesn't help, we can see what the Mail people have to say about this.

Changing summary to reflect that this now only happens to MailNews.
Summary: Latest release still loses lan connectivity on both browser and mail → Mozilla loses lan connectivity in MailNews component
Joe, has the problem with Mozilla losing connectivity when checking mail been
cleared up for you with more recent releases? If you could let us know how
things have been progressing for you, that would be appreciated, thanks.
Resolving worksforme based on lack of response, if this still happens in recent
builds feel free to reopen.
