(thought I filed this before, but I didn't)... AOL Mail and Netscape WebMail Accounts Mozilla does not integrate with AOL Mail and Netscape WebMail, as Netscape 6/7 do. If you share your Netscape 6/7 profile with Mozilla, you may be able to see headers for messages in the account's Inbox if you have previously checked one of these accounts in Netscape 6/7, but you will be unable to interact with the messages. To access your AOL Mail, WebMail, or Netscape Instant Messenger, you need to use Netscape 6/7. From bug 214669: ------- Additional Comment #1 From Jo Hermans (spamtrap - don't send any mail) 2003-07-02 15:14 ------- Netscape WebMail doesn't work in Mozilla, but it works in Netscape 7. See http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.4/known-issues.html#mail Reporter, are you sure it works in *Mozilla* 1.3.1 ? ------- Additional Comment #2 From Will Levine 2003-07-02 17:43 ------- i believe the reporter was referring to logging on to ns webmail via the website and browser, not via the mail/news component. this should work and it does wfm in both moz 1.4 in windows and my latest cvs build from today. --- The description of the service (and how it works) is inaccurate. (As I understand it, the problem is that the brand is "Webmail", even though it is actually available via IMAP as well). I'll try to bake some text that is more precise. I've got some Netscape brand people involved now too.
Ben, what needs to be corrected? taking over relnotes bugs -> me

Netscape 7's has integrated several AOL services, including: 1- AOL Instant Messenger and ICQ access via an IM module. 2- AOL mail access in MailNews 3- IMAP access to Nescape WebMail. Mozilla does not have any of theese features. If you share a profile (rest of text...) Netscape Webmail can be accessed by Mozilla via the browser. (a more polished version of that?)
Netscape 6 or 7 has AOL Mail and Netscape WebMail integrated into Mail & Newsgroups. Mozilla does not have these features. If you share your Netscape 6 or 7 profile with Mozilla, you may be able to see headers for messages in the account's Inbox if you have previously checked one of these accounts in Netscape 6 or 7, but you will be unable to interact with the messages. <del>To access your AOL Mail, WebMail, or Netscape Instant Messenger, you need to use Netscape 6/7.</del> You can access your AOL Mail or Netscape WebMail via the browser. Brant, ideas?
AOL mail is avaible from any mail client which support IMAPv4 { imap server = imap.fr.aol.com; smtp server = smtp.fr.aol.com; username = yournick@aol.com; password = youraolpassword; } but, will it be able for Netscape mail ?* ( netscape & aol mail seems to be very similar )
Since there seems to be no news on netcenter... What is going to happen to those of us who use the Netscape mail client to read our netscape.net email, now that there will (probably) not be any more Netscape releases? Is there any way that the special IMAP interfaces could be made into a plugin for Mozilla? Or even better, perhaps the source code for these modules might be imported into Mozilla?

Cheers, My company uses iPlanet base webmail, and (unfortunatelly) im forced to use IE to access it. Main problems are in composing messages: When composing, pushing either "attach" (attach works, "add" button in attach dialog doesn´t) or "send" (in composer window) produce no action. I didn´t want to create a new Bug, as this seemed on-topic here. Versions are: 1.6b Moz Browser; 5.1 iPlanet Messenger Express. This is not unique to our installation, as several people I know with access to different netscape webmail installs report the same behaviour. PT
Pedro, you should open a new bug for that.

http://www.mozilla.org/docs/end-user/guide/get-started.html now reads You can use Mozilla's mail client to access AOL Mail. To set up your AOL account on Mozilla Mail & Newsgroups, create a IMAP mail account, set the incoming server to imap.aol.com, and set the outgoing server to smtp.aol.com. For accounts with AOL outside of U.S. and CompuServe 2000, see http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/#foreign for server addresses. For instructions on how to set up an IMAP account, consult Mozilla's on-screen Help. Netscape 6 and 7 has Netscape WebMail integrated into its mail client. Mozilla does not have such integration, but you can access Netscape WebMail via the Web at http://webmail.netscape.com.

add helpwanted We need know if Mozilla will work with AOL account created by Netscape, or if the user has to re-create the mail account in Mozilla.
Yeah... it has gotten more confusing because the names of the service don't describe the supported access protocols anymore. Here's what I know: Time Warner's AOL division offers two main email services: "AOL Mail" and "Netscape Webmail". Both services have IMAP and webmail access, which means that you can use either Browser or Mailnews (configure your account for IMAP). (AOL recently added IMAP support to their server, Mozilla did not add any features.) Netscape 7.x is a branded, Mozilla-based product of AOL, and it has additional features in this area, including: Netscape Webmail integration - when you activate new or current accounts, Netscape MailNews will automatically be configured to use IMAP access. AOL Mail integration - native support for AOL mail service. (I believe that this last point is going to give you more features than a simple IMAP access in Mozilla, so I've asked some contacts.
