I am using Mozilla nightly 2003071108 on Windows XP with SP1. There is a problem entering anything into To/CC/BCC... and Subject lines after you delete a line of To/CC/BCC.. with backspace. This is also a problem in 1.4 final. There is a workaround for this. If you click into mail body and then into To/CC/BCC/Subject line then you can type in text normaly. Reproducable: always Steps to reproduce: 1. Open New mail Compose window 2. Enter some To address 3. Press Enter to cause Mozilla to add another line for To e-mail address 4. Press backspace to delete this line 5. Click in Subject line or click under first To e-mail address line and try typing something in Actual results: You can't type anything into Subject or To/CC/BCC lines. The carrest doesn't even appear there. Expected results: Typing into these fields should work as normal.
I just installed Mandrake Linux 9.2 Beta 1 which has Mozilla 1.4 packaged with it and it seams to work fine here. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030630. So this could be just a windows problem or this started in a later build.
I just tried with build 2003072722 on Linux and the bug is here too

I've noticed this too in several nightlies lately (currently running 2003080204 WinXP). I stumbled across this bug when I replied to a crossposted news article and I tried to remove all but the relevant newsgroups. Basically, almost the same procedure as the original steps to reproduce. I clicked on the icon next to the group I wanted to remove (to highlight the group's name), hit delete once to get rid of the group name, deleted again to get rid of the line. Tried to click on the next group's icon, but I couldn't do anything in the recipients pane until I had clicked the focus elsewhere (like in the body). Annoying... Wish I knew how to fix it. :(
I am running windows XP and am using Mozilla 1.5 alpha. I have encountered this same bug. I have also noticed one extra item that might be of use to a debugger... When this problem is occuring, if I click one line below a recipient (as if I was going to add a new one), a new "To:" entry appears, but I still can't edit it. I've also noticed that if I try to highlight text, when I finally do get to being able to edit it, the text does flash once as if it was highlighted and quickly unhighlighted (even partial highlight attempts will cause only part of the text to appear highlighted). Somehow, it appears that the GUI is receiving and caching mouse click events but is not processing them right away... Can anybody verify this on a unix box? Maybe even try the middle click pasting? I hope this extra info is helpful in debugging.
Exact same problem. This seemed fine in the previous major release (1.4). Am using Build 2003071814.

I think this is fixed (dupe of bug 215169)? Can you all test with a current build please?
I tried with build 2003091704 on Windows XP and it seams to be fixed here. I'll try in Linux later.
mscott says that this is indeed a dupe of a fixed bug.
Flags: blocking1.5? → blocking1.5-
someone can dupe this if they want but for now closing as WFM. This is fixed in the trunk and in thunderbird and in moz 1.5
