Using linux build 1999120808m12, when typing in the text fields of a New Card for the address book, there is a delay displaying each character and the text box resizes for each character typed. Linux only. 1. Launch Messenger 2. Select Address Book from Tasks menu 3. Select an address book and click New Card 4. Start typing in a name Result: with each character typed there is a delay and resizing of the box Expected: each character to display immediately and no resizing.
Also note: this does not happen in Edit Card, however it takes 16 seconds for the card to display the existing text entries.

Does this happen in every edit field, or only in the address book? cc'ing beppe.

Buster, Simon: who should own this bug? Seems like a drawing problem from inside of the text widget.
If it's really a drawing problem, it could go to kevin, patrick, or pavlov, depending on what's really wrong. I'd send a query to those three asking them. But the part about the control "resizing" bothers me. If it's really resizing (that is, the frame representing the text control is changing size), that would indicate a layout problem. If the visual representation is changing size, as if the clipping rect is being changed, then it's not a layout issue (probably.) If it only happens on linux, that's a pretty good indication it's not a layout issue, since frame sizing is nearly 100% XP. The one portion of frame sizing that isn't XP code is font data. If somehow the font data were being changed, the frame might resize.
Mass move mailnews bugs to Putterman. Ouch.

Using Build 2000-06-20-08, M17 on LINUX 6.1 I tried typing something in the text boxes within the Names Tab, it seems to works fine. Marking as Fixed.
