User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030715 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030715 When clicking a link to download gunzip files that do not automatically attempt download (i.e. SourceForge downloads), the link takes me to a page with encrypted code on it. When trying to remedy the problem by right clicking the link and Save Link Target As... nothing happens. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Click the link 2.Encrypted code comes up 3.Use Back Button 4.Right Click and attempt Save Link Target As Actual Results: Mozilla makes no attempt to download the linked file. Expected Results: Automatically download the file when link is clicked. Save Link Target As should have the same behavior
the page is displayed as text because the server is delivering the files as text/plain (Evang bug). However, "Save Link Target As" works fine for me. You might try a clean profile for the save link target problem.
Apparently that worked, but I am wondering why aged profiles might do that to the app. The text/plain solution makes sense so I am referring to the Save Link Target As function. If Mozilla cannot use aged profiles, it might cause problems for users in the long run.
the "save link target as" problem is unique to the pages you mentioned, right? can you: 1. try opening the JS Console 2. clear the console 3. try to save the link target 4. copy/paste any messages from the console into this bug. if that doesn't show anything you'll have to figure out what it is in your profile that causes problems. you can try copying your files into the clean profile and see if that causes problems. then you can try pruning the files until it works again. be sure Mozilla is always closed when you're modifying files.
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, my profile was deleted, and I was forced to create a new one. That seemed to solve the Save Link Target As problem. However, I no longer have my profile to help track down the problem. I will report back if I figure anything out. I have had that profile since the 1.3 beta tests at least.
Works for reporter (with new profile), nobody still sees this, no new findings in 20 months. ->WFM
