User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030701 Mozilla Firebird/0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030701 Mozilla Firebird/0.6 I suggest to open an art contest in order to build a gallery of Mozilla related cliparts. To do this, first of all, final products to get and names must be defined, at least for the core ones: Mozilla Browser, Mozilla Mail, Mozilla Composer... Also state clearly if these are definitely the final names the products will have. Once these is established, the nexts is logos for each core component: - Mozilla Browser, Mozilla Mail, Mozilla Composer, Mozilla Suite (I think there will be have to be packed distributions). - And also, Mozilla Foundation. As for the mascot, clarify if it will or will not be available for Mozilla merchandising purposes. If it is, and people really like it (I don't), then it will become part of the main resources to be provided to contestants. Then there are the fonts to be established as the standard Mozilla font, I mean, for writing "Mozilla XXXXXX". Then there is the default theme. Also standardize that the throbber can't be changed completely (maybe only some colors to adjust to whole theme color), nor hidden, as it is what identifies a browser at first sight. Come the app icons, the buttons, option icons, setup clipart. For bigger fans: backgrounds, even mobile phone backgrounds would be cool. The come slogans and phrases. I would like to suggest: "Same web. Better way." or something like that as a slogan. Come the phrases such as: "It's better with the lizard." or "Survivor of the browser extinction." and so on... So with all these resources, merchandise can start. Items are not big deal, the standard: mugs, t-shirts, mousepads, stickers, balls, portraits, cd cases, and so on. It would also be cool to produce Mozilla music CDs. So bands that sympathize with Mozilla will donate their songs to compile CDs with the Mozilla sound. Just like OldNavy's seasonal CDs. In summary I would suggest this list of art contests: 1- App names, contest open for two weeks, jury deliberation to nominate 5 candidates during 1 week, vote the winners in one week 2- Logos, contest open for a month, jury deliberation for two weeks, vote the winners in a week 3- Mascot (if necessary), same thing 4- Icons, same thing 5- Standard theme, same thing 6- backgrounds, same thing. 7- Merchandise requests: open forever 8- slogan and phrases: open for three weeks, deleberate one week, vote one week. 1,2 and 3 have to happen first. Then 4-8 can happen at the same time. The prize, could be the number 1 of some of the merchandise items produced later in which his/her/theirs art work is used and a place in the Mozilla Gallery (whatever it may be). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

About the rules. I would suggest focusing in the Mozilla Browser and Mozilla Mail coming products. I am assuming Mozilla Firebird doesn't have a chance to become the product name because that was Mozilla's compromise during the "names war", so Mozilla Firebird won't ever be anything but a project name, and so, it's not worth investing time on its artwork. Not sure (hope not) if there are any plans for Tunderbird to become a final product name. Unless this is the case, don't include projects in the contest. Or at least don't distract creativity. I agree it would be nice to a have a common artwork and names for projects (sun, thunder, fire birds) but mozilla browser 1.0 is not too far so we should focus on the main products: Mozilla Browser, Mozilla Mail and Calendar. Also, defining the final names is of course a higher priority than art and must preceed the design contest. Anyway we must work on the design contest rules before starting it.
We have a graphic design team headed by Steven Garrity <steven at silverorange dot com>, volunteers should write to him.
