User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1

If I place a symbolic link in $FIREBIRD_HOME/plugins to the
libjavaplugin_oji.so, Firebird will not start. If I place the symbolic link
there after the browser has been started, and type "about:plugins" in the
location bar, the browser crashes. This plugin worked properly in
MozillaFirebird version 0.6.0.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install Sun Microsystems Java 2 Software Development Kit
  (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/)
2.cd $FIREBIRD_HOME/plugins
  ex: cd /usr/local/MozillaFirebird/plugins
3.ln -s $JAVA_HOME/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
  ex: ln -s /usr/local/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
4.Try to start MozillaFirebird, or, if it's already running, type
"about:plugins" in the location bar.
Actual Results:
application will not start -- appears that nothing happens

Expected Results:
started :-) -- with support for Java applets
I've had the same problem (running Debian, Woody)

The same happens to me, What's wrong???
Reporter, Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 is compiled with gcc-3.2.3 and as such, needs
to use the ns610-gcc32 version of the plugin
(/usr/local/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so).

This should be RESOLVED -> INVALID
I'm seeing this bug on Firebird 0.7, with this browser:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031118 Firebird/0.7+
(aebrahim)

I've tried all of the various enhanced nightlies available at
forums.mozillazine.org and all of them after the 20031029 enhanced nightly cause
the browser to close when complex Java apps are run. Specifically, the
HushMail.com Java Encryption Engine causes the browser to close without errors.
I think this is related to bugs 180946 and 190107.

I have NOT tried the unenhanced nightlies, because I can't find them.
Addendum: I am using the gcc 3.2-compiled Java plugin, and the crash DOES NOT
HAPPEN when simple Java apps are loaded. The official 0.7 and the 20031029
enhanced nightly do not show this bug.

I'm not sure if this is related to the earlier reports, though.

Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.2_03-b02

    File name: libjavaplugin_oji.so
    Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.2_03

WFM just fine: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040329
Firefox/0.8.0+
I am using Firfox 0.8 Rv 1.6 and designate it as my primary browser, though
MSIE6 is still installed. My OS= Win XP pro. I tried to check the various
reported Java problems but they are too many. Many sites call for Java 2, and
Firefox offers to download it, which it did. But unlike other plug ins, it does
not install it automatically. I go to the download directory and install it. It
installs OK and MSIE6 recognizes it and uses it fine. But Firefox does not. I
go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/JAVA In the Java plug-in control panel
under heading tab BROWSER it shows Java used as default under MSIE but not under
Mozilla 1.1 or later. If I try to check Mozilla 1.1 or later it will not do it.
Therefore so far I have no way to run any Java applets in Firefox. My email is
<jn@tidewater.net> Thanks
Marking INVALID based on Comment #4...also these builds are really old.

jn@tidewater.net, please try to get your problems fixed in the forums @
mozillazine or mozillanews.
