User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 On the Linksys Router GUI, there is an option to update the firmware. When this link is clicked on, a Java applet should start to allow you to authenticate by entering a password and selecting a file path. In other browsers (IE 5.0 and Opera 7.1) the Java applet works. In Firebird 0.6 and 0.6.1 the "Click here to get the plugin" icon comes up instead. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Windows 2000 + Service Pack 3 2. Install JAVA 2 Runtime Env SE v1.4.2 3. Install Firebird 0.6 - Noticed problem 4. Installed JAVA extension from Extensions page 5. Deleted Firebird 0.6 directory 6. Downloaded Firebird 0.6.1 and installed 7. Reinstalled JAVA extension from Extensions page Actual Results: Same result, getting the Get Plugin icon.
Perhaps I should add, this behavior also occurs on various websites, but I don' have a specific log of URLs... I used the Linksys GUI page to test various (unsuccessful) workarounds. Gavin Downie
Problem went away when I downgraded my Java installation to 1.4.1_04. So it appears to be specific to Jave 1.4.2.
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/phoenixwin.html Q: How do I install the Java Plugin? A: Download the Java Runtime Environment from Sun (download page, http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html) and install it. Get version 1.4.2. Once installed, Mozilla Firebird will detect and use the plugin. Important! If you do not have Mozilla installed, and JRE 1.4.2 does not work, you will need to apply this registry patch (http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/resources/firebird-jre142-fix.reg).
Try deleting your profile, downloading the latest nightly build, and try again. I was having java problems myself, and this fixed it. I am using Windows with Firebird build 20030830 and Java 1.4.2_01. Visit http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/start/HelloSwingApplet.html to see if your java is working or not.
Sorry, I can't confirm that. I downloaded the latest nightly of Firebird, removed all registry keys and profile directories associated with Mozilla and Firebird/Phoenix, and then ran the new version. Granted, I used Java 1.4.2 (not the latest), but I doubt it would have helped. The result was exactly the same as with regular Firebird 0.6.1. After I imported the Mozilla registry patch again that I posted earlier it worked perfectly. Another interesting note: Applets don't work, but judging by the "about:plugins" page, the Java plugin is properly loaded.
i'm using 20030907 Firebird/0.6.1+ with Java Plug-in 1.4.2_01 and applets are working fine. (after i applied your patch, thanks btw)

This should either be RESOLVED -> INVALID (Java 1.4.2 needs the registry entry mentioned in Comment #3) or duplicated to Bug 211226.
