User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624

When trying to scroll a lengthy website, if you grab the vertical (or horizontal
if its a wide page) scroll bar, the CPU load will immediately increase to 100%
and remain there until you release the scroll bar. I have performed the same
tests on IE and Safari for Mac OS X and neither exhibits this problem. If you
try to read a large web page (like an article on Slashdot) on a PowerBook, you
will find your CPU fan coming on quite a bit if you dont release the scroll bar
often.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a web page large enough to cause the scroll bar to appear.
2. Click and hold the scroll bar.
3. Observe the CPU usage (top or similar) of the Mozilla process.
4. Release Scroll bar.
5. Observe CPU usage once again.
6. Profit!

Actual Results:
CPU usage was at 100% for the duration the scroll bar was held.

Expected Results:
CPU usage should not have increased to 100% and stayed there. Other browsers (IE
and Safari) do not have this problem. My PowerBook should not start cooking my
leg for scrolling a web page!

No crashes to date and its a stock Mozilla install. No themes.

Mac only?
It's Mac only, it's not an embedding bug, and there's probably a dup. With the
Carbon toolkit, I think we use 100% CPU when the mouse is down anywhere. Camino,
which uses the Cocoa toolkit, doesn't have this problem.

I can confirm the reported behaviour running Mozilla 1.5RC1 (Mozilla/5.0
(Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030916) on my PB G4
(Mac OS 10.2.6).
I also tried click+hold anywhere on a page and it also uses 100% CPU.

Hope you can fix it soon, it is really annoying, especially when working on battery.

Martin
