This bug is a bit like bug 205566 for Mozilla suite, but its much worse in
Thunderbird making this a Thunderbird specific bug.
To reproduce, resize window and see that the status bar disappears, also parts
of the scrollbars are not visible anymore. Due to this Thunderbird has to be
maximized for status bar and scrollbar to reappear (or resize it much bigger).

I noticed there is a thunderbird specific bug for this, sorry...
