Linux 12-14-11-M12 commercial build:
Cannot read the ".gif attachment" message for IMAP & POP account
1) Login to IMAP or POP account.
2) After send out message with ".gif attachment" file.
3) Actual results: Cannot read the ".gif attachment" file from the received
message.
Expected results: should enable to read the ".gif attachment" file from the
received message.
What do you see, karen? Is it a broken icon? Is the .gif not there at all?

I only saw one line text, no icon at all!
Do you have View Attachment Inline on? Putting on PDT- radar. GIF support not
needed for dogfood.
I can not reproduce this problem on my machines. I can view gifs and jpgs file
ok on POP/IMAP. I tried on the following builds:
Linux commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-14-11-m12 installed on P200 RedHat 6.1
Win32 commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-14-09-m12 installed on P166 Win98
MacOS commercial seamonkey build 1999-12-14-08-m12 installed on G3/400 OS 8.6
I'm pretty sure this is working because I verified bug 21436 (crash when
openning a message with web page attachment).
Karen, could you attach you gif file to this bug report? What is the line of
text you were seeing?
BTW, the View feature to view attachments inline has not been implemented yet.

I only see "INBOX>189?part=1", I cannot read the attached file when I send the
above ".gif" attached file.
You can try to recreate this problem or I can show you.
This gif file looks corrupted. When I click on the attachment link in this bug
report, it displays as a broken image. I guess the file could be either
corrupted or the attachment type is incorrect.
To be certain that this gif file is valid on linux, launch the graphic viewer
called ./kview and try to open your test gif file. It should display or not
display correctly.
Working with Karen, we verified that her test gif file was corrupted. We saved
a new gif file using Linux 4.7 and re-ran the test. The gif attachment sent
from 5.0 and received in 5.0 was received ok.
Marking bug as worksforme.

fyi,
The View menu option to "view attachment inline" is not hooked up. But the user
pref does work.
If you add the following line to the prefs.js, it will not display attachments
inline.
user_pref("mail.inline_attachments", false);
