There is a draft of the specification for the Advanced Mail Transfer Protocol at
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-weinman-amtp-00.txt

Also see http://amtp.bw.org/

Thunderbird should implement AMTP support.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Target Milestone: --- → After Thunderbird 1.

draft-weinman-amtp-02.txt was succeeded by draft-weinman-amtp-03.txt, which
expired in October 2004. Currently, the main web site for AMTP is
<http://amtp.bw.org/>.

The home page on this site is dated April 2004, and promises a proof-of-concept
Perl implementation "by the end of May." There's no sign of any more recent
activity on the site, and a google search didn't turn up anything recent either.
Overall, the project looks pretty dead. hcihw ,

The attempt appears to be rather dead, and there does not appear to a major server or client-side implementation. -> WONTFIX.
