with Mac 1999121508, with MacOS-J 8.5 1. Use NSMacInstaller-M12 to install seamonkey 2. Launch seamonkey. 3. After a few moments, seamonkey hangs. 4. At this point a small, corrupt window appears in the upper left corner of the screen. 5. Click on this window to disclose an empty window. 6. Click on goaway box. Result: Application crashes into MacsBug. Really an M12 blocker. Marking M12, please forgive me for doing so, but I want it to start appearing in the queries. Tried on two machines, got the same results.

You have found no workaround? What happens when you launch it yourself rather than via the installer? Does it matter whether a profile already exists or not? If you have exactly one profile you would not hit this exact bug (although you may hit a different one depending on what the actual cause is.) Please attempt to run with exactly 1 existing profile. If necessary, pass in the -CreateProfile flag rather than using the UI to create the profile. The target fix version is for the development team to project when the bug will be worked on, it is not a field for bug reporters to fill out. At this stage, the correct approach is to inform chofmann that you care about this bug but don't know if there's a workaround. (In fact, leaving the TFV blank is the correct way to bring attention to a bug.)
1. On the Mac, you have to launch it yourself, you can't launch it via the installer. 2. When this first happened, there was a profile in the "default profile directory". Profile Manager couldn't find it. 3. Then I deleted the Mozilla Registry. No effect. 4. Then I deleted all the User Profile Directories. No effect. 5. Then I created a Users50 directory at the same level as the Netscape Folder. No effect. 6. I tried to launch directly into the profile manager. No effect. 7. At your suggestion, I created a Mac launch document with ARGS: -CreateProfile and used that to launch the program. No effect. 8. Although it is true that we could still launch seamonkey in the past with only one profile, that is no longer the case. This is a new problem that we did not observe yesterday.
After I dowond loaded ftp://sweetlou/products/client/seamonkey/macos/8.x/ppc/1999-12-15-08-M12/netscape5-mac-M12.sea.bin file and I unzipped this, I could start Netscape without crash under Japanese Mac 9.0.
Steve, can you reassign to samir if this is his bug?
Sorry, CreateProfile takes either one or two arguments. If you just pass in the profile name it'll create that profile with a default directory name. Otherwise, you can also pass in the profile directory. I believe the syntax is now -CreateProfile "name [dir]". I'm not sure what would cause this to be Samir's bug. Are you implying that the installer may have caused the problem?
I don't know, but this is happening just today, and yesterday there was a fix for 21724; do you think they can be related?

Can one of you test the theory that the problem is related to the browser.xpi either being out of date or in some way unpacking the wrong files?
I found same problem on one machine in lab, PowerTowerPro 225 running OS 8.51 I had installed MozMacInstaller and created/migrated profiles without incident. (see bug 21824-no mail was installed) I then installed NsMacInstaller and hung on launch. Macbugs is not on that machine so I just rebooted after a long wait. NsMacInstaller DOES install and launch on my G3 OS8.5 allowing to create profiles etc ** after a reboot - I am not sure bugs 21724 or 21734 are fixed. adding Samir to cc list.

[Low relevance to this bug] As long as the browser.xpi got installed (the Mozilla or Netscape binary got installed) the bugs Grace alludes to are fixed. If you do not see these binaries (well, for one you wouldn't be able to launch :o) ) then the bugs are not fixed.
