I am unable to select an alternate SMTP server in Account Settings / <account 
> / Server Settings / Advanced after adding an alternate SMTP server in Account 
Settings / Outgoing Server (SMTP) / Advanced if more than one server is 
specified using the same IP address, but different ports (I use SSH2 port-
forwarding for all of my IMAP/SMTP traffic, and it's convienient to bind the 
mail transport ports to unused non-privledged ports on 127.0.0.1, instead of 
having to use seperate localhost adapters).

My default SMTP server is set to 127.0.0.1:2025 - I wanted to add 
127.0.0.1:3025, and the UI in Account Settings / Outgoing Server (SMTP) / 
Advanced reflected the new entry.  However, in Account Settings / <account > / 
Server Settings / Advanced it does not appear in the list box on the SMTP tab.

Using 127.0.0.2:3025, it seems to work fine.  It seems like the Server 
Settings / Advanced UI doesn't list multiple SMTP servers with the same IP 
address.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add a second SMTP server in Account Settings / Outgoing SMTP Server (SMTP) / 
Advanced with the same IP address (but a different port number) as your default 
SMTP server
2. from Account Settings / <account > / Server Settings / Advanced try to 
select the newly added SMTP server from the list box enumerating the available 
SMTP servers on the SMTP tab


Actual Results:  
The SMTP server just added will not show up in the list box enumerating the 
available SMTP servers on the SMTP tab in Account Settings / <account > / 
Server Settings / Advanced

Expected Results:  
Listed the newly added SMTP server (even though its IP address may be the same 
as another SMTP server already in the list of SMTP servers, it could use a 
different port)

Especially for people using various forms of client-side port-forwarding (e.g. 
SSH2), it's useful to be able to specify multiple SMTP servers that use the 
same IP address (e.g. 127.0.0.1) .

I found that SMTP server format was already changed to
<SMTP_Server_Name>:<Port_Number> instead of <SMTP_Server_Name> only format.
Changed by Bug 220520 or Bug 220913?
Reporter, problem still remains on newer builds?
If old SMTP server definition is the cause, what happens when you delete old
SMTP server definition and define two new SMTP server entries with same server
address but different port address?
Please note that SMTP server choice of accounts are not changed automaticaly on
SMTP server definition change.
Go Accoutn Settings/Server Settings/Advanced and choose "Always USe Default
(SMTP) Server" or appropriate SMTP server.
I've tried changing to "always use default server", but it didn't make any
difference (except I can send the mail if I shut down yahoopops and start up
hotmail popper).

I can't find where even to specify the outgoing port in the Account Settings. 
Am I missing something?  (It would be really nice to get rid of hotmail
entirely, if I can get Mozilla to recognize yahoopops.)

(I'm using Mozilla 1.5 (5.0 Windows) on WinXP with hotmail popper for my hotmail
accounts, a couple of hotpop accounts and *receiving* mail on yahoopopper only.)
In the "Advanced Outgoing Sever (SMTP) Settings" dialogue box, NO matter which
SMTP server is set default, always the first/top SMTP server in the list is
used. Fail as a different ISP is used.
Mail/News has a poorly designed SMTP user interface. This type of problem is
normally an enhancement, and would thus be of low priority to developers.

However, the bad design of the SMTP user interface is causing a number of users
to file spurious bugs. It is also resulting in a lot of grief (the magnitude of
which is not recognized, because it is dispersed between a number of different
bugs).

This is a problem with both Mozilla Mail/News and Thunderbird.

It remains a problem even in these, more recent versions:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113
Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5 (20040207)

Although no single SMTP bug has that many votes, the sum of votes for those bugs
partially or wholly dependent upon UI problems is rather large.

These bugs aren't really bugs, but are users who are mislead by the UI:

- default server value not being used to send mail.  Mail cannot be sent.

- don't remember the updated default SMTP server. Can't use more then one SMTP

Note that all of these bugs can't simply be marked closed and consolidated into
one bug (most contain more than one issue with the way SMTP servers are entered
& organized).

However, I suggest that the UI aspects of these bugs be consolidated into bug
202468 . 

Let's all vote for it, and hopefully get some work done on this UI!

Closing as WORKSFORME because this bug's problem(no port number in SMTP entry
name) is already resolved but it is unclear which bug resolved the problem.

Renée Boileau(poster of Comment #4), your problem is different from this bug.
Open a new bug since "one problem per bug" is rule, if similar bugs are not
found after search of bugzilla.mpozilla.org.
