If a Firebird user wants to file a bug regarding his 'Options', how should he know that the components name in bugzilla is 'Preferences' ?
I think we could add a mention of tools>options in the description...
Agreed, adding Tools->Options at most is what's needed. If a user can't figure out that his bug belongs under Preferences after reading the description, I don't have much faith in his ability to file a useful, non-duplicate bug report. (I already read enough bugspam from dupes, I don't think we need to lower the bar farther). Also remember that Preferences is more than just the Tools->Options UI
>Also remember that Preferences is more than just the Tools->Options UI What should a Firebird user know about bloated preferences? By design he should use slim options, or a full power extension, like http://preferential.mozdev.org/ I read a lot of postings of Firebird users in mozilla forums at mozillazine, you can´t prevent them by any means to post in the wrong forum or category. The least I want is more bugs filed from Firebird users, but it would be nice, to enable those who know, to find the right component. I´m not at all content with the wording 'Options', because imho 'Preferences' is the better wording. But I started with NS3 or lower, and didn´t like and use IE, so my humble opinion maybe somewhat not so humble biased. Firebird is actively pressed on people with the argument of beeing slim, more modern with lots of themes, extensions and such stuff, and mozilla is bloated crap. But with each major change in Firebird or new release there are tons of bugs filed as browser/general, because themes and extensions are broken. Maybe we should replace Browser with MozillaBrowser, or better, replace both of them, with BrowserMozilla and BrowserFirebird, so that both selections are in the vicinity, at the same time seen by the user, so he must choose. But mozillazine is contributing to this, they have the headings Firebird (Browser), Thunderbird (Mail), and Mozilla Suite for their forums regarding FB, TB and Moz. Have a look here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php?c=4 Mozilla Firebird (Browser) Firebird General General discussion of browser topics. Firebird Builds Talk about nightly browser builds and the Build Bar. Firebird Features Talk about what features you like in the browser, and ones you would like to see. Firebird Bugs Talk about bugs in the browser before submitting them. Mozilla Thunderbird (Mail/News) Mozilla Suite Each of the four forums mentions browser, so why do they write it in parens in the heading for all four of them? Seems, that browser == Firebird? Firebird is a browser, but Firebird is product Firebird, and Mozilla is product browser. That must be confusing for somebody who only knows Firebird from the Gecko browsers spectrum.
Suggested wording for the component list "Bugs and feature requests for Firebird preferences. This includes the Tools->Options UI as well as the preference defaults." As QA for the component in question, I really don't feel any more needs to be changed. Blake doesn't read bugmail, so I wouldn't expect to see much in the way of comment from him unless we ask on IRC.
Seems reasonable to me.
