are you using a proxy server at all? if so, have you copied over your proxy settings, including checking whether http 1.0 or 1.1 is set up in IE?

My ISP uses transparent caching, no explicit proxy, IE is set to http 1.1, can't see an option to set that in firebird?
Ok, just checked - firebird is also set to use http 1.1.
Tcha. Ignore! Zonealarm issue! (Zonealarm not starting, but still interfering)

I'm having the same problem! I'm using Windows XP as well. The about box window shows a logo that says version 0.9, but at the bottom is the following text: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.8 ... whoa. Just read the comments. I didn't realize I still had zone-alarm in stalled, and I certainly didn't have it running -- hadn't run it in days -- but apparantly just having the blasted thing installed is enough to make mozilla not work. How odd. Uninstalled zonealarm, mozilla works.
