User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 I think the download link for the Linux Firebird should not point to the GTK1 builds because they look terribly ugly, and I think most people have GTK2. Perhaps the Linux download link should point to a page explaining the two versions. Until such a page is created, I suggest making two links on the front page, one for something like "Basic Linux" and another for "Linux/GTK2". Maybe the OS should be detected better (can it be?), because you know if the user has RH8+, for example, he has GTK2. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

This is also pointed out in bug 205390. Font smoothing problem is a frequent complaint in newsgroup. Is there any reason why we keep linking to gtk1 builds? I'd like to change this, but I need two reviews

related (and possibly dupe): bug 245997 I heard somewhere that we don't link to xft version because it's not stable.
Summary: GTK1 and GTK2+XFT versions of Linux Firebird should both be equally easy to download → GTK1 and GTK2+XFT versions of Firefox & Mozilla should both be equally easy to download
As for Firefox this is already fixed (Firefox link for Linux is by default the gtk2 version) and Thunderbird is officially available only in the gtk2 version, so for the "aviary" programs this bug is fixed. Bug 245997 was filed for SeaMonkey GTK 2 builds.

Adding GTK1 to the Linux link should indirectly reduce the complaints about ugly fonts, leading people to try the "Other Systems & Languages" link that leads to the XFT/GTK2 contrib builds those users actually need.

This was fixed at checkin. The page has since been redesigned. Marking fixed anyway.
