Currently TB allows sorting by either name, thread, date etc. It would be a nice
enhancement if these categories could be combined (i.e. to sort by thread AND
top thread subject).

I was going to file a bug that exactly suggests what
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57898#c5
suggests for Mozilla Mail.
In my words: Choosing a new column to sort by, should leave rows
with the same key in that column in the relative order in which they
were displayed previously.
E.g., if I have stuff sort by date, and then choose sorging by sender,
my own messages should remain being sorted by date. That's very convenient,
e.g., when trying to find that suggestion I made a month or so ago.

Yes, please. This is especially important when you have a mailbox with
thousands of items in it. Since mail volumes only keep getting bigger for all
of us, gracefully handling large amounts of mail and assisting users in doing
so, will be a major selling point for any mail client.
