User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 There are some files, then when I try to download them, they appear inline instead of getting a dialog box. Most annoyingly, it happens on pretty much any Mozilla.org project. You would think Firebird could handle it's own download format. These are also very large file which slows everything to a crawl. Combining this with bug 222341 ( "Save Page As...", etc don't work ), it makes it impossible to download other Firebird or Mozilla builds through Firebird. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download certain files - particularly .gz seems prone to it 2. Watch it appear inline 3. Watch it be impossible to download the binary because "Save Page As..." and "Save Link As..." don't work either! Actual Results: self-explanatory Expected Results: self-explanatory
your url seems broken (no file there). to hazard a guess, i'd say that the servers you are downloading from are sending the wrong content type (which IE happily accepts, unfortunately).
Okay, this URL has a file... dunno what happened to the Firebird download (that link was from versiontracker). With all the problems experienced, did you guys pull it? Anyway, this Mozilla 1.5 link also does it. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.5/mozilla-mac-MachO-1.5.dmg.gz It's possible that your thought it right, but it's your own servers, so I would think you guys would do right by your own browsers.
The "Nightly Build" link on the front page of mozilla.org just loaded as text on my Mac (10.2.8) in Moz 2003101505 Perhaps this is the problem: % curl -I http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-mac-MachO.dmg.gz HTTP/1.1 302 Found Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2003 19:49:25 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6 mod_throttle/3.1.2 Location: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-mac-MachO.dmg.gz Connection: close Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

there are 4 different mirrors that answer to that domain name. Obviously some are configured correctly and some aren't.
What is the desired mime type? Please test with: http://mozilla.oregonstate.edu/ http://mozilla.isc.org/ http://mozilla.ussg.indiana.edu/ and tell me which one worked correctly.
Ah, the problem is at ISC. OregonState is perfect (type octet-stream & encoding gzip); Indiana and GATech are close but not quite (gzip & none would be valid, but gzip & gzip imply foo.gz.gz) fuy% curl -I http://mozilla.oregonstate.edu/pub/mozilla.org/firebird/releases/0.7/MozillaFirebird-0.7-mac.dmg.gz HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2003 20:53:14 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.28 (Debian GNU/Linux) PHP/4.2.3 Last-Modified: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 09:12:44 GMT ETag: "3350067-a8d049-3f8d0f8c" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 11063369 Connection: close Content-Type: application/octet-stream Content-Encoding: x-gzip fuy% curl -I http://mozilla.isc.org/pub/mozilla.org/firebird/releases/0.7/MozillaFirebird-0.7-mac.dmg.gz HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2003 20:53:33 GMT Server: Apache/2.0.47 Last-Modified: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 09:12:44 GMT ETag: "e5237f-a8d049-2a79fb00" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 11063369 Connection: close Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Encoding: x-gzip fuy% curl -I http://mozilla.ussg.indiana.edu/pub/mozilla.org/firebird/releases/0.7/MozillaFirebird-0.7-mac.dmg.gz HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2003 20:53:50 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6 mod_throttle/3.1.2 Last-Modified: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 09:12:44 GMT ETag: "3e3097a3-a8d049-3f8d0f8c" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 11063369 Connection: close Content-Type: application/x-gzip Content-Encoding: x-gzip fuy% curl -I http://tricia.cc.gatech.edu/pub/mozilla.org/firebird/releases/0.7/MozillaFirebird-0.7-mac.dmg.gz HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2003 20:59:00 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) Last-Modified: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 09:12:44 GMT ETag: "37419e5-a8d049-3f8d0f8c" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 11063369 Content-Type: application/x-gzip Content-Encoding: x-gzip

Now that is my kinda bug report ... haha ... :-) Okay, Indiana should be fixed now. Am waiting to hear back from Gatech and ISC.
ISC is working correctly now. Still no word from Gatech ... i think somebody is on vacation there. However, it is functioning ... just not ideally.
All 4 ftp mirrors now work with Mozilla and download properly. Thanks.
