User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20031008 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20031008 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 A feature that I like a lot in KMail is the separation of incoming mail accounts from identity information. I miss this quite a lot in Thunderbird. My situation is as follows: I have three identities (two personal and one corporate) set up wich all receive email in the same IMAP account, only in different folders. The different identities have different names, email addresses and GPG keys. It would be nice if Thunderbird would support this. Currently, I have to add bogus IMAP accounts to Thunderbird in order to use another name every once in a while. This is of course not an ideal situation. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Not appliccable Actual Results: Not appliccable Expected Results: Not appliccable Not appliccable
I was about to enter this very same enhancement request this morning. In my case, I own an entire domain. All email not specifically addressed to specific family members comes in through a "catchall" POP3 mailbox. (Unrelated to the mail address I'm using for this bugzilla account.) I have some two or three different email addresses that I use frequently. On occasion, I make up a new adress on the fly, just for one email message. It's a feature I liked in mutt: I could simply type in a sender address on the fly. This feature I miss in Thunderbird.
Mail&News has two RFEs that seem to mirror this one: Bug 44863 and Bug 87987 Prog.

See http://www.mozilla.org/projects/thunderbird/identities.html. The identities are independent from the incoming servers. There is just no user interface for it yet. This is what bug 44863 is about. Associating identities with certain folders is bug 166293. So part of this bug report is WORKSFORME and the remainder is already covered by other bugs. I'm marking it WORKSFORME just because. ;-)
