Very odd. Initially it sounded to me like what happens if you create the dock
icon from a source which is then deleted (like if you'd created it from the
Firebird icon in the original disk image folder), but I don't think that'd
explain being able to use the icon to quit the program. Sounds a bit like bug
223658. I assume you've tried deleting the dock icon and creating a new one?

This sounds like it could be bug 204484. In this bug, when Firebird is already
running, but with no open windows, clicking the Dock icon doesn't do anything.
Can you confirm whether Firebird was actually running already (you'll see
"Mozilla Firebird" in the top left application menu). If so, this can be marked
as a duplicate of bug 204484.
Mac OS X 10.2.8
Firebird build: Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040127 Firebird/0.8.0+
Firebird launches from the Dock without any issue.

Try deleting ~/Library/Phoenix/Application Registry
If that doesn't fix it, try deleting the whole folder (~/Library/Phoenix)

FYI: I am able to launch Firebird 0.7 from my dock in OS X.3.

Ty and benc, are you still reading this?
Were you running OS X 10.3 and do you have any extensions or third-party themes
installed?
If so, please remove them and see if it loads then.
Please let us know if that works. It could be related to bug 223654.
