The number of emails displayed in my in box is incorrect. There are over 100
additional messages that have been deleted but still appear as in the inbox.

How can we delete the excess inventory?

either compact the folder, or turn on auto compaction (Edit | preferences | mail
& newsgroups | offline and disk space - compact folders when it will save over
XX k...)

We leave messages in the folder until you compact because of the berkeley
standard mailbox format we're using - actually deleting messages would be
painfully slow on large mail folders because it could involve rewriting the
whole mailbox from the beginning.
